My subconscious screamed at me as I ran away from the house I had lived in and into the woods.

Mrs Johnson had called the cops and my mother had said they would take me away. I couldn’t have that and I decided to leave. The thoughts of my mother lying on the cold floor with her warm blood around her filled my head.

It was all I could think about and knowing she wasn’t going to wake up again made me so sad, and suddenly running away wasn’t a bad idea anymore.

I didn’t know when I had become so good at running, but I had always been the fastest in my class. My good sense of hearing made it very easy to avoid the cops who were hot on my trails. I heard them giving each other directions of where I was heading to.

I could smell them from a mile away, knew their movement and avoided every trap they had laid out for me.
