The walk towards the library felt much longer than I remembered it to be. Every step that was leading me to Damien was also causing my heart to beat faster.
After Ruhee announced Damien wanted to see me in the library, she removed the wig that I did not remember I was wearing, unlike the glasses that I removed in the car.
There was no exchange of words between us and even though it felt weird I decided to stay quiet.
Inhaling a deep breath to fill my lungs with as much air as I could I raised my fist to knock on the heavy wooden door. But stopped feeling unsure.
"You can come in," came his deep voice from inside.
I opened the door with shaky hands.
Damien was sitting on his chair with both his elbows resting on the desk and hands clasped together. He was studying my every move with his eyes.
I closed the door softly.
"What do you want to talk about?" I asked, keeping my voice as strong and confident as I could.
Another wave of silence swept away the words from the room leaving nothing but the sound of my shallow breaths. "What will I get?" He walked towards the bookshelf taking his time, "What you wanted the most....your freedom." I licked my dry bottom lip. Was it one of his games? But more importantly, was I willing to play? "What are you talking about?" He removed a book from the second row and opened it, "You will get your old life back. You can achieve everything you wanted to and this will just be like a dream for you " I bit the inside of my cheeks nervously. Did I trust him enough to fall for those words? But what other choices did I have? "How should I know this is not one of your lies?" He chuckled turning a page, "You don't but this is your best chance of getting out of here." He was right. I had no idea of knowing if he was lying or not. But was I willing
I inhaled a sharp breath as soon as I stepped in the deafening silence of the room where Ruhee was putting clothes in a big bag. She paused for a few seconds after realizing I was there as well but didn't bother initiating a conversation. We had to leave earlier than expected.I pressed my lips in a thin line and walked towards the closet to help her. Running my fingers over the soft material of the clothes lined up nicely, I removed a black crop top and folded it once.Ruhee noticed the action with a sideway glance but said nothing. I put it along with other clothes.Next, I went to pack a pair of shorts, this time her lip twitched and the motion of her hands folding the clothes became more aggressive.I was definitely doing something wrong but did not care and picked blue sweatpants."I will do this," she took the sweatpants in a swift motion and went back to her work."Are you never going to talk to me
I was standing in front of the room where I stayed the last time I was in the palace.Just when I was about to open the door, the same guard from earlier came towards me."The prince has sent me to give you a message, you are staying in the room next to the one where you previously stayed."I gave him a skeptical look wondering if he was telling the truth or not. I tried my best to find the lie on his blank face but failed miserably.Reluctantly I turned to walk away hoping I was not walking into a trap. I put my hand on the knob to open the door but paused to look at the guard in the hallway, only to find it empty. That's not weird at all.I opened the door but my feet turned to ice when I stepped into the completely different part of the palace. The icy walls were grey in the room, too grey that they looked black but had the same gold borders with delicate patterns. It was bigger than the room I stayed in, with a l
Two days went by with every minute passing like an hour.I had never felt so alone in my life. I had to stay in Damien's room and if I wanted to go anywhere two guards would follow me like a shadow.Damien was busy with some work but tried his best to give me as much time as possible. We had breakfast in the room but he would come late at night.Ruhee on the other hand was still ignoring my existence, no matter how much I tried to talk to her. She was just shutting me out.But not today, it was the day I hoped never would come. We were having breakfast with everyone, the mere thought was enough to kill my appetite."Are you ready?" Damien asked opening the door."Yeah."I put the black woolen shrug lazily over the olive dress I was wearing, it was 7:24 am and we had to reach for breakfast at 7:30 am. I suppressed a yawn even though I could barely keep my eyes open.By the time we reached near the t
I was standing in front of the rainbow of flowers.Different colors of flowers covered every inch of the ground. The boundary consisted of the flowers arranged in the rainbow pattern. A narrow path of large stone led to a table made of marble with two chairs around it.Inhaling the aroma of flowers I looked at Damien with a grin, "This is beautiful.""My mother used to spend most of her time here. She made this, it was her favorite spot in the entire garden," Damien explained with a warm smile on his lips but a sad look in his eyes.I felt a thorn stabbing my heart as I remembered Emily's words."I am sorry, Damien, I had no idea that the hunters of Greenpine were involved in..." I could not complete the sentence."It's not your fault, Nora.""How can you be so understanding? Were you never upset after finding out I was from that town," I lowered my voice while saying the last part."I was," Damien said dryly,
"I want to ask you something," I put my head on my knees to look at Damien. Damien glanced in my direction through the mirror while buttoning up his white shirt. "What is it?" I got out of the bed to give him the grey suit jacket. "Why do you guys have wolfsbane in your garden?" I passed him a jacket to which he muttered thanks. "How do you know about wolfsbane?" he arched a brow. "I read it in a book which I borrowed from your library," I tried my best to hide the smile while saying the last part. Damien tilted his head to pass me an unimpressed look. "But that's not what we are focusing on right now." He stepped away from the large mirror to face me, "There is no wolfsbane in the garden. It is dangerous for werewolves." "Fine, I'll show you," I grabbed his wrist to pull him as I walked towards the door without giving him any chance to say something. "Nora." "Nora," I didn't
"Growing up I was called different names, with time I learned to ignore them then my mother died and for a while, they stopped until the word spread out that I have no wolf," Ruhee paused for a minute."The cruel words became worse and every day I got a new injury to remind me I was different."I sat there silently listening to her. The pain in her voice was heart shattering."When you came here I thought I finally found a friend. The day you left people started pointing fingers at me once again. You were with me before you went missing," she let out a small breath.I rubbed her arm to remind her I was here and she was not alone anymore."People thought I had something to do with it. That day I was called a 'traitor', it was bad because all my life I was loyal to the royal family," she stared at the burning flames with a cold look in her eyes."Ruhee I am so sorry, I had no idea it would happen. I never wanted to hurt you in any
"I am just leaving."I froze, completely forgetting about where I was going when that voice fell into my ears.I turned in the direction of the voice and started walking as fast as I could with two guards following me.It was the same voice I heard at night in Damien's house. He was the same guy who was talking on the phone about me.I reached a hallway but it was empty. I looked around to find someone who could tell me about the man but no one was there.I started walking again but bumped into someone falling on the floor as an impact."Watch where you are going," came an annoyed familiar sound.I got up to find Luca glaring at me with his dark eyes, his long hair was in a half man bun."I am sorry, I was not looking.""Of course, you were not.""Why are you being so rude?" I frowned, "is it because I am a human?"He scoffed in response, "Not everything is about you, get
