Chapter 26: The woman

"Where was you today at three in the morning?"  The officer was an older man, his hair was white and he had a lit cigar between his teeth. The classroom was empty and a little dark, the sky had become cloudy threatening to rain.  It was just him and me.  And Max of course.

"In my house, asleep," I replied, trying to keep my voice from sounding shaky.  I wondered what the others had said.

"According to Loren," he read something written from a folder, "he spent the night with you. That's true?"

"That's how it is."
