Chapter 25

Charlotte POV:

Reading was one of the few things that he would let me do. It was a treat for me if I been really good. If I did all my chores, played his games, and take my beatings like a good girl, he would leave me alone for a day to read.

Reading a book made me feel safe.

Reading made me feel like I wasn't trapped in the house with my abuser. It made me forget the bruises and broken bones. It made me forget my hunger and fears. I was whisked away in whatever fantasy land that I was reading. It gave me hope that I could live a life like that in my next life.

I'm happy that Theós and Aries let me continued to read while I stay here. I didn't know what I would do if I couldn't do that.

"Charlotte!"

I jumped, curling into a ball as the door to my room slammed open. Peering up from behind my book, I slowly relaxed when I seen it was Timothy standing in the doorway. I really wasn't expecting someone to come busting in the room like that.
