Madison’s POV.

Tyler took the phone from my hand and dialled the number for the police station, putting it on speakerphone. I listened as the phone rang, my heart pounding in my chest. Finally, a woman's voice came on the line.

"Hello, this is the police station; how can I help you?”

Tyler cleared his throat and spoke into the phone.

"Hi, I'm calling on behalf of my friend, Madison Byers. She's worried about the status of a case you're investigating. It's about her sister, Gem.”

"Can I have the victim's name and the case number?”

The woman asked, her voice calm and professional. Tyler looked at me and I told him Gem's full name and the case number, which I had committed to memory.

"One moment, please.”

There was a brief pause, and then she spoke again.

"I'm afraid I can't give you any updates on this case. It's still an open investigation, and I'm not authorized to share any information. But I can tell you that the police are doing everything they can to bring your sister
