Chapter 5: I Need To Work

"Look if this is going to be some sort of lecture I don't have time" I said while adjusting the collar of my shirt.

He looked at me full of annoyance that not only shined in his eyes but was etched onto his face causing me to sigh, really not wanting to listen to whatever the hell he was going to say about how wrong I was.

"I'll lock the door next time okay" I said, feeling like a child that was about to be scolded and was trying to attempt to sway his mind in the other direction.

"Did you like it?" he asked cocky, causing me to scoff and stare at him in annoyment.

"What I like and don't like is none of your concern" I stated and he took a deep breath before shaking his head a bit.

"You have to tell him no" he said in a bossy tone and I rolled my eyes., what was he my fucking parent

"Yeah no shit" I mumbled while rolling my eyes.

"We're gonna be step siblings, nothing can happen between anyone anyway" I said while walking towards the door.

"We're not blood he'll see that as an opportunity" Julian stated causing me to stop

"Nothing is gonna happen okay" I said looking back at him, desperately wanting to get out of this house and away from any more interactions with these guys along with the hope of making it out without my mother catching me.

"Why are you so nervous anyway" I ask but he doesn't respond, he just looks away causing me to sigh.

"I'll see you later Julian" I said before exiting the room and heading downstairs since it was clear he wasn’t going to respond to me.

Walking towards the door I push my phone into my pocket as I reach out to grab the door knob.

"Where do you think you're going?'' my mothers voice sneered from behind me causing me to pause and take a deep breath.

Any bit of hope I had about not seeing her this morning or having anymore interactions quickly drains from my body.

"Work" I said in a quiet tone while turning back to look at her.

There was this fire in her eyes as she raised an eyebrow.

Her expression was cold as she looked at me.

My stand was defensive even with her about ten feet away as her anger swirled through the room causing my body to tense up even more.

"Why would you do that?" she said through gritted teeth.

"Because I still have some stuff to set up" I said cautiously as she stared at me.

"Don't go in," she said sternly, causing my eyes to widen.

"But I have to be there" I started to protest when the shock dropped off of my features.

"I said don't go in today" she gritted out while elucidating every word.

"We need to be a family with them, meaning you are on your best behavior" she said, stepping forward with a threatening look on her face.

"Meaning you are to spend time with your soon to be brothers, not work, got it" she spoke in a threatening tone.

"I understand mother" I whispered and she tilted her head.

"I said, got it" she said again while breathing deeply.

"I got it Mother'' I said and she nodded slightly satisfied before stepping over and motioning up the stairs.

"Go on then" she said and I walked past her heading up the stairs.

When I made it to the top I let out a little breath while leaning against the wall "damn it" I muttered with my face in my hands.

"I have to go," I said, walking towards my room and pulling out my laptop.

Locking my door I put on a set of headphones connecting them to the computer.

Logging in I press on Jack's name and the call starts dialing.

Walking into the bathroom I put on the shower to cover my voice.

"Hey boss, where are you?" Jack's voice rang out, causing me to look over at the screen as I raised an eyebrow and he nodded in understanding.

"The issues with the gang aren't bad, I can have everything under control in around an hour" he said and I let out a little sigh.

"See this is why you're my right hand man" I said and he laughed a little at my comment.

"I've still got some paperwork to get done when I am I'll shoot you a text and have it printed in my office" I stated and he nodded stiffly.

"The gun drop off will be done in two days and we're supposed to get 60 mill don't let them skimp out; I don't have time for Riddlers shit" I said and his face went a little pale at my tone.

"Also my mother is getting married again" I said and his eyes widened.

"Isn't that like the fifth one this year?" he asked and I nodded.

"Yep and he's even richer than the other ones" I said while rolling my eyes.

"Well she's definitely got a type" he said and I let out a little laugh.

"Yeah except this time he has four sons" I said and his mouth dropped.

"Holy shit" he mumbled and I nodded.

"They're getting married this coming weekend" I said with a smirk and he let out a little sigh.

"Oh no, you've got that look on your face, what's the plan" he said almost nervously.

The smirk on my face widened "I'll send you everything when I'm done, it'll be the perfect cover up" I said before turning fully serious.

"But I need you to get me anything and everything that you can on a man named William Pierce and I need it no later than Wednesday" I stated and his eyebrows furrowed.

"William Pierce" he said in a questioning tone and I nodded my head.

"Yeah he sounds familiar" I said in almost a lost tone "anyway get it done, I'll be in touch" I said and he nodded.

"I'll get right on it boss, good luck" he said whispering the last part and I sent him a small smile.

"Thanks I'll need it" I said before he sent me a small wave and I exited out, going into some documents.

Turning off the shower I walk out towards my bed before plopping down and getting to work.

Hours passed when I heard shuffling outside my door causing my body to pause.

'Shit' I thought to myself at the thought of my mother being outside.

A small knock comes from my door causing me to feel a bit confused.

My mother would never knock so gently so it has to be someone else, pressing save and closing all of my files I close the computer placing it onto the bed stand next to me.

"Amara" I heard a whisper causing me to sigh.

Standing up I walk to the door before slowly opening it.
