Disappointed

"Fuck, I'm sorry. I didn't think it would be so weak," he says after he recovers. I sigh and shrug, "I'll pay to have it fixed."

"Don't worry, my dad can do it for free," I say and walk in to turn on the lights. They don't. I try five times, the light never turns on, "What day is it today?"

"Uh... first of October," He says after checking his phone. The first of the month. And we forgot to pay the fucking light bill. Again. It has been in the little table by the door the whole month but I kept expecting Eddy to do it, and I guess she kept expecting me to do it.

I grab it and lift it. Yep, it says right there. If we fail to pay, the light will be cut starting next month.

"I have some candles. Come on in, mate," I say, forcing a light tone to try and lift the mood a bit, but my curse it's making it hard today.
