Chapter 39 - Denial Wins

As they looked at Gerard, a bewildering mix of emotions played across their faces. Maria, sensing the tension, excused herself from the room, leaving Amelie and Gerard alone.

"Ivy, I knew it was you," Gerard exclaimed, enveloping her in an impulsive hug.

Amelie, feeling confined, struggled to break free. "What are you insinuating?" she questioned, her tone challenging.

Gerard released her, but his eyes were filled with conviction. "I know what I'm saying. That song, that melody—it's etched in my memory."

Amelie, using her cane for support, rose from the piano, attempting to maintain composure. "Mr. Huxley, what's all this?"

Gerard persisted, "I know. There's only one person who played this, and that's Ivy. It can't be a mere coincidence that you know this song."

Amelie sighed, attempting to deflect. "When will this daydreaming of yours end, Gerard? I've said countless times that I'm not your wife. This is just a common song that everyone knows. I thought of playing it, that's all."
