Sitting there with Alex in her arms Amelia lost all sense of time and place. She held the unnaturally still Alex close with all her might, held on for them both. Alex was warm and despite all the blood Amelia caught a whiff of her husband's comfortingly familiar scent. It gave her hope that perhaps her world wasn't ending. She combed her fingers through silky soft hair and imagined it was just a lazy morning together, safe and sound in their bed.

"Five more minutes, baby", Amelia whispered. Her voice broke. "Then we'll get up."

Time lost all meaning. Amelia wasn't aware of the people around them until someone moved. She tightened her protective hold on Alex, prepared to take on any threat, to find Jenny.
