Chapter 96. Truth to Share

PEONY CRIMSON’S POV

The bright sunlight bathed my face as I made my way down the small path that led to the backyard of the packhouse. I was careful not to let anyone see me. When I got to the cottage, there was no one in sight except for a slip of note. It said that Gloria was taking the girls to the tower.

I chugged my water, then flopped down on the living room sofa. I'd been missing all night, what was I supposed to explain to my daughters? I massaged my stiff shoulders, probably because I accidentally fell asleep by the lake after... that moment.

I touched the upper lip, gasping at the flash images of last night's moment crossing my mind.

What was I thinking?

He made it through the crack in the towering wall I built. Was it because of my sympathy for his curse and guilt over the misunderstanding that ended our relationship? Or did the restored mating bond effect contribute to that?

I didn't ask Emily about this. She must have encouraged me to accept this reconnection.
