Chapter Twenty Nine

(Lena's POV)

I sat on the table.

Damien took out a bottle of Vodka. "Want some?"

"No, I am fine"

Damien poured the content into a shot- glass and downed it in one gulp.

I watched the movement of his adam apple. It sure sounded strange that the little action turned me on.

"Lena, I want to know: is there anything you are not telling me?"

"No. I told you pretty much everything; my life for the past two years has certainly been no fun. Why?"

"It's strange; these people coming after you must want something, and I don't know what exactly it is."

"Maybe you would have if you kept at least one of them alive to interrogate them."

Damien gave me a pointed look, and I couldn't help it. I burst into laughter; he didn't like being wrong.

"I wanted you protected, and I couldn't take any chances."

"As you can see, I am well able to protect myself."

"Still, I had promised you that you would be safe here; I can't break my promise; I don't want you running away on me before I could even have the cha
