ONE-HUNDRED AND FORTY

Clarissa walked into the cottage with a tray of fried eggs and coffee for two, whistling on the way. She was shocked to see Archer fully dressed with a small bag in his hands. Where was he headed to now? She could remember that a maid had been in a hurry as she moved around with the same bag, and now, what was all this?

“Archer,” she called softly.

He turned towards her, and she could see the sheen of sweat on his forehead. He took a look at the tray while he held the bag securely close to him.

“What’s going on?” She asked.

He sighed. “I have to go.” He said simply.

She frowned slightly. “You mean, we have to go? Why? You said that we would be staying here now? So, what changed?” She asked quietly.

He walked over to her, shaking his head. “Something came up, Clarissa. I can’t stay here for a minute. You’re not coming with me either. You would be here with my people till I got back. Ryan should be here to keep you on your toes. I’m pretty sure that nothing would go wrong,” he said soft
