I think I passed out.
When I woke up the three men were looking at me in concern.
“You okay Scar?” Lee asked.
“Yeah, it’s just I had this crazy dream-like thing that Dr. Conner said I was having twins!”
“That was real, babe,” Grayson informed me.
“Twins?! God, I have the worst luck!” I groaned.
“But they’re so beautiful,” Grayson whispered, his eyes on the monitor.
I looked at it again and sighed. He was right.
They were so beautiful.
--
So I was carrying two peanuts inside of me.
That was exciting and horrifying. However, how cool was it to get two kids over with in one go? I didn’t have to have any more after this! Oh, but what if I have two girls and then I want a boy? Or two boys and I crave a little mini me? What if both of these kids sucked and I wanted to try for one good one?
The possibilities were kind of endless.
“There’s something different about you,” My good friend Lincoln Ellison commented, peering over his designer glasses. “You simultaneously look like crap and hotter than you’ve ever been.”
“Go to hell and thank you,” I responded. “These last few weeks have been a lot.”
His mossy green eyes lit up with excitement. “Do you have gossip? Please tell me you do, everybody’s been so boring lately! You know Lulu and Carter barely fight?”
“I can’t tell you yet, but I promise next week I will and it will be very juicy.”
“Does it have to do with the triangle?”
“Oh yeah,” I grinned.
“You’ve got me hook, line and sinker.”
“I hope all men burn in hell!” Analeigh Frost sat down at the table with us.
“You seem to be in a great mood,” I commented.
Her blueish-green eyes narrowed at me before softening. Before becoming friends last year I’m sure she would have called me a poor tramp for that smart remark. But we’ve both grown past being petty people…to each other anyways.
“The men in business are so fucking uselss a-and mean and just down right awful! You know today someone told me I was too pretty for presentations? That I distracted from the slides.”
“You are super hot, Analeigh,” We glared at Lincoln. “But that is so not cool of a guy to say. It's sexist even.”
“Nice save,” I muttered. “Look Analeigh, we both know it’s hard as shit being a woman in business, but you are more than capable of handling it. Be firm with those men, tell them that you’re not gonna take their shit and then take their jobs instead.”
“No one takes me seriously there, Scarlett,” Analeigh whispered with tears in her eyes. “They see that I’m blonde and attractive and they assume my daddy got me this job or something.”
“Do we have to watch Legally Blonde again?” I asked. “Cuz I will.”
“I think that would be really nice, honestly.”
“Ooh, can I come?” Lincoln asked.
“Come where?” My best friend, Lulu Dejoria sat down with us.
She pushed her brown hair out of her face revealing excitement in her hazel eyes. The sun made her brown skin look even warmer.
“Legally Blonde tonight?” Analeigh asked. “You have to come.”
Sometimes it was so weird to me that they used to hate each other. Though sleeping with the same boy will do that.
Not that I ever thought Carter Chambers was worth such a rivalry, but that’s just my opinion.
“Alright fine, as long as there’s wine. Scar, got bottles on hand?”
“Um, yeah, a lot actually.” I admitted.
My house was filled with bottles of wine that I could no longer drink. The peanuts were restricting my favorite diet.
“Great, I’ll invite Carter too! Ooh and Lee and Grayson too! You’re all friends right?”
“We are but-”
“Perfect and then we can go over our pitches afterwards.” Lincoln said excitedly.
Only a bunch of business school graduates would be excited for the night we were going to have.
***
I studied my reflection in the mirror, my eyes on my stomach.
I looked a little bloated, but I didn’t have a real bump yet. Was it weird that I was kind of excited for it? I had always wanted kids. Sure I thought I was going to be married when that happened, but this, just like everything else in my life, was unpredictable.
“You look beautiful,”
I looked up and saw Grayson in the reflection.
I had given him and Lee’s keys to my place mostly to shut them up about all the what-if situations they made in their heads. They hated me living here alone.
“Thanks,” I smiled. “I can’t believe there’s two babies in here.”
“I can’t tell you how much I hope they’re mine, Scar. I um…have a whole plan for us, you know? You can move in with me, set up a nursery and everything. Take lamaze classes, we can get married after the babies come. A-and put them in cute outfits and all of that.”
I could see the genuine love and excitement in his eyes.
My children would be so lucky if Grayson was their father. He would be doting and affectionate. He would spend Sundays at the park with them.
Shit. Sundays.
I had promised my younger brother Gerald that I would spend Sundays with him. Maybe I should tell my family this weekend. Rip the bandaid off. Hell they probably wouldn’t even care that much. My dad would just call me a whore or something.
“Scar?” Grayson brought me back to reality.
I didn’t realize he was right behind me.
“Yeah?”
“I think you’re going to be a great mother,”
I turned to face him. “And you’ll be a great father. Whether to these babies or some other ones.”
“I would raise them even if they’re Lee’s. I mean like I would be their step father and treat them like my own.”
“You’re a good man, Grayson. Way too good to me.” I whispered.
He gently touched my face. “It’s because I love you.”
“I love you too,”
Grayson leaned down and kissed me. That was completely and totally against the rules, but I didn’t care. I missed being kissed and held. Grayson’s fingers slid into my hair, gripping it tightly as his tongue slipped into my mouth. I pulled him against me, dying to have my arms around him.
He backed me up into the wall, kissing me harder. Hormones had me feeling incredibly frisky. My hands danced up Grayson’s shirt, touching his muscular back. He moaned into my mouth, gripping my hair harder.
“Anyone home?” Lee’s voice called, breaking us apart.
“Sorry,” Grayson whispered, pressing his forehead against mine. “I just miss being with you so much.”
“I know, I miss it too,” I breathed. “Coming Lee!”
We went downstairs to greet Lee.
“What were you two doing?” He asked.
“I was asking Grayson if I look fat yet,” I stated.
“You don’t, you look stunning.” Lee smiled.
I was on the verge of melting. Why did he have to look at me like that and say those words?
“So do you,” I replied.
Lee winked at me before taking a seat on the couch.
An hour later the rest of our friends were in my living room, laughing at the ever amazing Elle Woods on the screen.
“Maybe I should be a lawyer?” Analeigh asked.
“No,” We chorused.
“Alright then.”
“I’m gonna get some water,” I declared.
“Me too.” Lee helped me up and we went to the kitchen.
“You feeling okay?” He asked.
“Kinda crampy, but Dr. Conner said that’s normal.” I informed him.
“I’ve um been doing a lot of reading about pregnancy…it’s kind of fascinating all that’s going on in your body right now.”
“It’s something,” I laughed. “It’s sweet you’re doing all that reading.”
“I’m fully preparing to be a father…I-I know that I’m younger than Grayson and a little less mature, but I want this so badly, Scar. I would give anything for those babies to be mine.”
Just like Grayson, I knew Lee would be a good father too. He would be the opposite of his father. Loving, encouraging, supportive. I knew he wanted a chance to be better than his father.
“You’ve come a long way from saying that love wasn’t for you,”
“I blame you.” He grinned.
“I’ll take it all.”
Lee pulled me to him and kissed me passionately.
If there’s one thing about me, I was going to repeat the same damn mistakes over again!
Lee backed me into the fridge, kissing me harder. I wrapped my arms around his neck as my lips glided over his. Lee put his hands on my waist, gripping tightly at first and then it seemed he was worried about the hurting babies and loosened his grip.
Lee rubbed his nose against mine as he pulled away. “I love you so much, Scarlett.”
“I love you Brantley.”
“I hate when you call me that,” He laughed before kissing me again.
“Scarlett, you’re missing the best part!” Analeigh screeched.
Lee stepped away from me, wiping his lips. “Um, yeah. Sorry I just got carried away.”
“Yeah, so did I.” I ran my fingers through my hair before going back out to the living room.
I sat down thoroughly hating myself. Why did I continue to do this? I could only be with one of these boys.
I had to stop acting so recklessly.
There were now two other people involved and I had to put them first.
“I’m pregnant.”“Whore!”“Skyler!” I exclaimed. “You’re supposed to be helping me!”“Sorry, but wouldn’t your dad sound like that?”“I guess, but…ugh what if I just didn’t say anything?”“Scar, let me paint you a picture. You go to your Dad’s house for dinner, having already told your mother to also come. It’s time to pour drinks and you say ‘no thank you’ and everyone looks at you like you’re insane. There are two possible questions that will be asked. One, ‘are you pregnant?’. Two, ‘are you back on drugs?’.” Skyler explained. “Huh.” I grunted. “So no matter what you would have to reveal that your stomach is being occupied by two little trust fund babies.”“This is why you’re my friend,” I nodded. “You tell it like it is.”“That’s what I’m here for. So nut up and tell your parents you’re pregnant. Invite the boys to make the blow softer.”“Now that’s not a bad idea at all! My mom loves those boys! Skyler, you’re brilliant, do you know that?”“I do. So tell me something I don’t know
I thought telling my parents was going to be bad enough. Now I was sitting at brunch with the Wrenfords and the Windsors and I couldn’t even have any mimosas. “So, I hear you guys have been having me followed,” I declared. “It was just for your own good, Scarlett.” Belinda Wrenford assured me. “You know we worry about you. We wanted to make sure that you’re not relapsing.”“Well I definitely won’t be doing that in the next eight months!”No one laughed. Whatever that was funny as hell.“So when will we find out who the father of these children are?” Hal Windsor asked.“In a few days, and then this whole mess will be over. I will be with the father of my children.” I said firmly. “How have you been Scarlett?” Ninette Windsor questioned. “Are you keeping up with your prenatals and getting enough rest?”“I’m really trying, just with whole situation and work-”“Well you’re going to be quitting your job right?” Alistair Wrenford asked. “Um not at all. How am I supposed to pay for thin
“Fuck! Fuck! Fuuck!”Lee and Grayson looked at me like I was insane. “Yeah, I thought that you would be your reaction,” Dr. Conner stated. “No, this isn’t…it’s not possible!” I cried. “Actually it is…what are you doing right now? Can the three of you come to the hospital, I feel that we should discuss this in person.” “Yes, please, because this doesn’t make any sense at all to me!”“Okay, just breathe and come now.”I hung up.“So?” Lee asked. “We gotta go to the hospital.”I would let Dr. Conner share the news with them, because if I did it, I might puke.***“No! That’s impossible!” Grayson exclaimed. “There’s no way!” Lee shouted.“Gentlemen, please calm down and let me explain,” Dr. Conner said soothingly. They took a deep breath and nodded. “This is very possible and it has happened before. It’s called heteropaternal superfecundation.”“Try saying that five times fast!” I laughed hysterically.“Basically Scarlett released multiple eggs during ovulation and you each fertil
I was gonna puke. For the first time ever mine, Grayson, and Lee’s parents were all meeting. We were sitting down for dinner to let them know the shocking and inconvenient news. This would end in one of three ways: sobbing, fist fighting, or yelling. And it was possible all three things would occur and even more possible that worse things would happen. And couldn’t have a single drink throughout it.Peachy.At some point I had to go shopping. Clothes were becoming much too tight on me and I was starting to get just a little self conscious. “I’m hideous!” I cried. “Scar, come on, you look beautiful.” Lee insisted. “Why am I wearing a white dress, I look like the Michelin Man!” “You’re way prettier than that guy,” Grayson assured me. “This dress is perfect, babe.”“You’re only saying that because we’re running late,” I huffed. “I mean kinda. We don’t want to be late and deliver the most hectic news of our lives too.”“Fine, I’m ready to go.” I grabbed my purse and stomped out of t
“That’s my boy!” Alistair exclaimed. “That’s that Wrenford right hook!”“Grayson!” I gasped. “I’m sorry, but what the fuck is wrong with him?” Grayson shook his hand out. My dad stumbled up from the floor, his nose bleeding. “Scott, are you okay?” Sophia asked in alarm.Dad snatched the tissue from her hand and quickly wiped his nose before standing up and walking around the table over to Grayson. Oh no.He hit Grayson before tackling him to the ground.“Daddy enough!” I cried. Lee tried to break them up but he pretty much ended up getting involved. The other men finally intervened and it just became a mess of fists and cursing. Every single man involved in this scuffle was going to be in my children’s lives. The most important men in their lives at that. I had to pick a really good godfather for each so they could have some kind of stability. Finally everything simmered down and Grayson and my dad were separated. “You’re never coming anywhere near my child!” Grayson screamed.
“Do you think the house will be easy to baby proof?” Grayson asked.“Can we get carpet on the stairs to make them less slippery?” Lee questioned.“Oh, maybe we can get like an elevator in here?”“Guys, please!” I groaned. “Can you at least introduce yourself first!”“Right,” Grayson laughed. “I’m Grayson Wrenford.”“And I’m Lee Windsor.” He shook her hand.“And I’m Scarlett Watson.”“I’m Mei, so nice to meet you all.”Mei was a very pretty Asain woman with perfectly done black hair. She had stylish glasses over her bright brown eyes and she had a warm smile. I could see how she sold houses so easily. I would buy anything from her.“So we’re thinking about baby proofing at some point. Which two of you are expecting?” Mei questioned. “Oh all of us,” I smiled. “There’s two passengers on board and one belongs to each of them.”That was just the easiest way to explain it. Mei’s eyes widened, before she shook it off. “Wow, that’s um…very new age!”“That’s a fun way of putting it,” I laugh
“You went with house three?!” Lee demanded. “And you didn’t even tell us?!”“Did you even consider the houses that we picked out?” Grayson accused. “Yes I did actually, much more than I should have. I’m the only one who is guaranteed to be living in this house so why the hell would I get anyone else’s opinion on it?” I asked. “One of us is going to live there though!”“Sure, if you’re lucky.”“You went behind our backs and had our parents buy the house!” Lee exclaimed. “You two sure are quick to forget that I told them to buy me a house. Not you two! I’m letting you live in my house.” I reminded them. “I liked house number three and that’s where I’ll live. You two don’t like it? Live somewhere else!”The both looked disgruntled, but there was nothing they could do.I held the babies, so I held the power. --“I’ve never heard a worse idea,” Skyler admitted when I told her about the three of us living together. “I know, but what else can I do? I can’t be carted back and forth on a
“Well this is a PR nightmare!” Belinda cried out.“It's not that bad, mom.” Grayson assured her. “I mean people were going to find out soon enough right?”“Yes, but I wanted us to be able to control that narrative, Grayson. It's not easy to announce that Scarlett is pregnant by two men simultaneously.”It really does make me sound like a slut.“It was that EJ guy Scar, I just know it!” Skyler exclaimed.“No way, he's in the pictures too!”“Who is EJ?” Hal asked.“He's the scholarship kid at Wrenford.” I answered.“EJ?” Alistsair asked.“See they don't even know him!” Skyler stated.“Do you mean Elliot Choi?” Belinda questioned.“Yes, Choi is his last name. He must go by EJ. See?” I raised my eyebrows.“Alright he's cleared for now.”“So what do we do?” Lee asked.“A press conference.” Alistair sighed. “We should tell the public before they find out on their own.”“We’re moving in next week, someone would have noticed we all go to the same house,” I pointed out. “While I’m not thrilled
