Chapter 5: what if his name turns white?

**One week prior…**

Jedidiah Roswell bounced in his seat, wide smile across his face as he looked out the car window.

His orange hair fluttered in the breeze that came from the open window.

He was excited to be back in New York after their parents left for France about 7 years ago.

He and his friends were finally able to get a small vacation from school so he took advantage of it to go to his home city specifically their beach house with his brother and their friends, maybe even visit some surrounding sites.

His parents had moved back to France a couple of years ago after which they enrolled Jedidiah in a dance academy there while Williams was more interested in Arts.

A tap on his shoulder made him turn to stare at the brunet beside him.

“So what do you want to do first?” The boy asked him.

Jedidiah grinned as he immediately became more excited than before. “Well I really want to check out this art school while we are here.” He said. “I hear they have phenomenal dance classes.”

The boy groaned lowly and shook his head. “But Jedi, we are supposed to be on vacation, you know that.”

“I know.” Jedi pouted. “But come on, you know me, I can’t sit still for very long.” Jedidiah replied as he already had a list of places he wanted to check out in New York City.

Williams just laughed at his step-brother then leaned in to ruffle Jedidiah’s hair in an attempt to cheer him up.

“Besides I have a good feeling about this trip.”

Williams raised an eyebrow at his step brother wondering what he meant by that.

“What makes you say that?”

Jedidiah just shrugs and lifts his left hand that wasn’t being held by Williams and smiled at the words on his wrist, Luca Knights.

Williams watched him with a small smile. “You think you will meet your soulmate here, don’t you?”.

Jedidiah gives him a wide grin in return. “It could happen, right?”.

Brown almond eyes looked at the brunet in the driver’s seat in front of him, who looked back at him with a smile in the rear view mirror.

“Right Jedi,” said the young man.

Williams chuckled and let out a small sigh. “Come on, Jackson, stop fueling my brother, you know that you shouldn’t get his hopes up,” He said.

Jedidiah gasps at his brother’s words feeling betrayed. “Why do you have to be so negative?” He whined, a cute pout forming in his lips.

“Jedidiah, we’ve pretty much been all over the place and we still haven’t found him, he might not even be here in the U.S like we thought.” retorted Williams. “What makes you think that he’s here of all places? And not in France where we were coming from?.”

“Well it’s not like we’ve been running around holding a sign saying “If your name is Luca Knights, can you please raise your hand.” Jedidiah snipped back at him. “You know we’ve searched all over France. Gavin even helped me unlike someone.” Jedidiah said referring to Williams’s father while giving his step brother the stink eye. “Besides this is one place we haven’t looked yet.”

As Williams went to reply, Jackson beat him to it. “That’s enough out of you two,” He chided. “Williams, I know you want to meet Luca as much as Jedidiah does but try to think a little positive yeah? You and Jedidiah got lucky in having the same soulmate even though I don’t know how and why that was possible. Besides you know soulmates are supposed to be sensitive to each other, it’s possible that Jedidiah does feel something.”

“Don’t you feel it too, Liam?”. Jedi asked poking at the brunet’s shoulder, clutching his hand in both of his which caused Williams to sigh as he dropped his head on the back of his seat.

His head rolled to look at his annoying step brother and he sighed again.

“You know I do, I just wish it was strong as yours.” Williams replied. “But I just think we need to be cautious. Your nightmares have been getting worse and they all have to do with this Luca of a person. I can’t help but feel like something bad is going to happen.”

Jedidiah frowned at this as he slumped in his seat and leaned against Williams. He only hummed in agreement wanting to drop the conversation now.

The boy could never explain it but since he got his soulmates names a week after his 18th birthday (which was about two years ago) ... he had been having dreams about them or more specifically, Luca.

Jedidiah had known Williams since he was 8 in which their parents got married to each other and then they moved to France from New York so it’d only be natural that he’d dream about the one soulmate he hadn’t yet met.

He had certainly been surprised but still overjoyed that he ended up sharing the same soulmate with his best friend and brother.

Though recently, in the last six months, his dreams have gotten worse and he felt sick every time he’d wake up from one.

He could never see Luca’s face or really what he looked like, all he knew was his soulmate was somewhere dark and where ever he was, he was in pain and sometimes even screaming for help.

A shiver ran down his spine and he clung closer to Williams who wrapped his arm around him.

Feeling a hand on his head and hearing movement behind him, he turned to look at another brunet who sat in the back seat of the van.

“Don’t worry, Jedidiah,” He said. “I’m sure you’ll find him soon.”

He turned his head to smile up at one of his closest friend. “Thanks Harry”. He said softly looking back at him.

A smack echoed in the car as a boy with mint colored hair smacked Harry on the back where his shirt had risen. “Hey, get back here, I was comfortable,” He grumbled with a glare on his face.

Harry laughed before sitting back again and letting the boy put his head on his shoulder. “Sorry, Saint.”

Saint just grumbled under his breath and closed his eyes again drifting back to sleep.

Harry looked to the front seat as he wrapped his arm around Saint’s shoulders. “Hey, Nathan”.

The boy in the passenger seat with ginger colored hair looked at him through his sunglasses.

“Turn the music up.”

“Sure thing,” He replied leaning forward and turning up the volume before going back to the notebook in his hands.

Jackson looked over at his soulmate sitting beside him. “New song?”.

Nathan simply hummed in response, his mind focused on the paper in front of him.

The car ride was silent, other then music, for the next hour or so before Jackson finally pulled into the garage of the house they rented for the next two weeks.

Turning off the car, he looked back to his friends in the back and shook his head as they were all sleeping.

Even his partner in the seat beside him had dozed off at some point as he leaned against the door mouth hanging open, nose pressed unceremoniously in the window.

Grabbing his phone he took a quick picture of Nathan then the rest of them before reaching around his seat to shake Jedidiah’s leg.

“Hey what-.”

Before he could finish, Jedidiah let out a scream and sat straight up, startling everyone who was asleep to wake.

Williams who had been leaning on him fell towards the door in shock and hit his head on the window.

“What? What’s wrong?”.

He looked around wildly before his eyes landed on Jedidiah who looked like he was trying to brush something off his arms.

Recognizing the signs of a nightmare he quickly sprang into action and wrapped his arms around his brother. “Jedi, what’s wrong? Hey it’s okay, we’re safe, you’re safe.”

The boy in his arms panted heavily as he buried his nose in Williams’s shirt. “G-glass, l-lots of it,” Jedidiah whimpered.

“Shh, Jedi, it’s okay,” Williams said quietly trying to calm him down. “There is no glass you’re fine, you are with us in the RV.”

“Another nightmare?”. Saint asked as he leaned forward. “You don’t normally get them during the day do you Jedi?”

Jedidiah shook his head negatively as he sat up once he was calm. “No, not normally,” He whispered. Jedidiah looked around at everyone staring at him in concern and felt sorry for startling them. “Sorry.”

“Hey don’t be sorry, Jedi,” Harry said as he gave Jedidiah a hug from the back seat the best he could. “It’s not your fault.”

Jedidiah just nodded as he scratched his head and gave Williams a small shrug.

“Where are we anyway?” The orange hair boy looked out the windows.

Jackson gave him a small smile before getting out of the car. “We’re here,” he said. “Our home for the next two weeks.”

The remaining five boys climbed out of the car and started getting the bags out of the back of the van before heading inside through the garage entrance.

The first floor was nice and spacious with large windows to let in natural light and was painted in neutral colors.

The furniture was modest, the couches a beige color with red accent pillows.

The dinning room and kitchen were just off the living room and open to the rest of the house with only an island separating them.

The dining table was set to fit four and there were three stools at the island.

“Dibs on the master bedroom,” Nathan yelled as he grabbed his and Jackson’s bag, bolting down the hall.

“Not fair,” Harry screeched in response as he chased after Nathan.

Saint just rolled his eyes before heading up the stairs to the bedrooms on the second floor.

Williams turned to Jedidiah who still had a distant look in his eyes. “Jedi,” He said catching the boy’s attention, “Come lets go grab a room.”

He pointed to the stairs and watched as Jedidiah nodded before following him upstairs.

There was only two bedrooms on the second floor and a bathroom, Saint had already claimed the first room on the right hand side for him and Harry leaving the room at the end of the hall on the left for Jedidiah and Williams.

Once inside the room, Williams put his bag down then turned to Jedidiah wrapping the boy in a hug. Jedidiah clung to the slightly taller boy and once again buried his face in his chest.

“Williams,” He whimpered, “They are getting worse. It’s as if I’m there, as if I’m the one feeling what he’s feeling. Where ever he is, Liam, he isn’t safe. We have to find him, we just have to.”

Williams rubbed his back and kissed his hair. “I know Jedi, I know and we will, we just have to be patient that’s all.”

“And what if we run out of time, what if we’re too late and his name turns white?” Jedidiah asked as he looked up at Williams. “What do we do then?.”
