Chapter 75: Two Birds, One Stone

Gustav's POV

"Drogo, did Iris runaway again?" I held the piece of paper in my hands, unable to bring myself to the stark realization that I'd lost her again. The older man bowed his head, shaking his head.

I heard the smashing sound of objects breaking, more like furniture smashing. It came from the direction of Iris' room. I had hurt her with what I said to her. I let my anger at Madeline get in my way of thinking. The whole thing about the poison was like a bolt from a grey stormy sky. When I thought it was about time I enjoyed a life of relative peace with mother and the next most important person in my life, then this happened. This just had to happen.

On coming down with Drogo to inspect the damage done to whatever she had broken out of anger, I discovered the room was empty of her and few of her belongings, except the note she left on the table, and her scent she left behind.
