What's this? Why can't I hear anything? Why can't I move?

Why is my vision blurred? I felt breathless for some reason. What's happening?

The sound of a shrill shatter jolted me out of my shocked state and I turned to see a broken plate on the floor. I found Zannicus frozen and face as pale as a statue.

"Co-come again?" Nic said with a shaky breath while walking towards the patrol wolf.

"A few minutes ago, we heard a faint howl of despair from the distance and when we went to the direction where the howl came from, there was a thick, black smoke rising from the east, as high as the sky. There's only one pack 60 miles from ours."

The man looked devastated, "Moonstone pack. We howled for almost an hour to see if anyone's alive or in need of any assistance but-....no one answered. You can-...smell the-.....burning carcass-...from a distance." He trailed off as I took a sharp intake of breath but before I could speak, I was cut off by my mate shoving past me and out the door
