Alexis stopped and stared at me. "You are focusing on the most inconsequential things."

I stood, my hands balling into fists in frustration at having to explain emotions to someone who couldn't remember them. "You know what love is, Alexis. You came all this way from Spain to find me! What if I hadn't been here? What if I was gone forever?"

Alexis closed his eyes and looked down. "Fine. You want Monica and I to leave and give you time to come to terms with our new arrangement. We will return the human body to where I found him." He looked at me. "When we return, you better have a change in disposition. I tire of your attitude." Gone was his casual tone.

It took every bit of will not to snap back at him. Luckily, he left. So I punched the cushion of the couch—but only after I was sure he was completely gone. He thought I had an attitude? Well yeah, I did have an attitude. One moment I am expected to relinquish all of my loves so that in one hundred years we can make a life together.
