“Since you were the last person to witness Valentina’s last moment, did she tell you anything?” One of the private detectives the school had employed questioned me, I was seated in the waiting room of the hospital.

Valentina had been confirmed dead by a medical practitioner about five minutes ago, she died due to exsanguination, and it was practically my fault.

It could have been a different thing to say if I had given in to my original instinct of breaking down the door instead of conversing with her, If only I had called the emergency sooner, she would be alive, probably in shock but it was still better than being dead.

“Mr. Lords…” The other detective called me, he clutched the jotter in his hands to his sides and he moved his other colleague to stand in front of me. “I understand you are grieving, and this is very difficult for you, but for the sake of the ongoing investigation, we need your statement.”
