Chapter 14

Jake

On my way back to Evelyn's house hours later, I'm greeted by Chloe. She's sitting outside on the porch, looking uncertain, surrounded by the early night. The night had descended upon us without us even noticing. We were so caught up in the moment and all the urgent matters that we had to deal with in our wolf's form we had forgotten how much time had passed. That happens when you shift into a wolf.

I slowly go up to Chloe. My brothers are still doing their last rounds and looking out for any signs of danger. I'm not sure how Chloe explained the last debacle to Evelyn, but judging from her expression, I don’t think it went very well.

I curse to myself.

Chloe looks at me, her expression unreadable. "Evelyn didn't seem so happy when I was trying to explain to her about what happen." She tells me. Her voice is steady, but I can hear the faintest sound of disbelief and regret.
