Addison’s POV
I let out a long breath as I exited the taxi that had brought me to the front of the divorce hall building. I felt the warm mid-afternoon breeze hit the skin on my face, which instantly warmed up.
From across the street here, I could see a very familiar man standing in front of the divorce hall building. I could see his eyes glaring at me. I don't know what will happen to me later. Maybe I'll get angry, considering I didn't show up as promised. Damon is a very time-disciplined man. Damon disliked lateness because he was a man who came from a wealthy family, the sole successor of his family's giant company. That's why he values discipline so much. I started to cross the deserted street, running a little up the stairs that were only a few steps. Now I could see that the man hadn't come alone. Next to Damon stood a beautiful woman wearing a very elegant dress with a soft combination of colors. The woman's name was Cora. She was the woman my husband had been in love with for the past two years. To be honest, my heart ached to see them together. Moreover, we have not officially divorced. Without thinking about my feelings, Damon arbitrarily brought that woman here. Does he want to see me down over this divorce? How heartless. Whereas in the past, I could see the love in his eyes that seemed genuine. Our togetherness since childhood made our relationship even closer. I even still remember the sentence of how he couldn't possibly live without me. It sounds exaggerated, but that was the fact. Damon loved me, and I loved him. But now, it all seemed to have come to nothing. He was with another woman, who I thought was his only possession. I had arrived before Damon, with her looking at me sarcastically. I squeezed my fingers tightly, trying to stay here and not cry in front of them. No, I can't be weak. I know it's hard for me, but I have to be strong. "You took so long to come, Addy! You kept me waiting from the promised time." Damon throws his annoyance at me. I glance at Cora's hand wrapped around the arm of Damon, my husband. It was a painful feeling to see them in such intimate contact. She seemed to have claimed Damon as her own. "I'm sorry." Damon chuckled in annoyance. "If it wasn't for this divorce, I wouldn't want to wait for you, or do you intend to run away again?" As I wanted to reply to my husband's words, the woman beside Damon had already tackled me first. "He doesn't need to do that. She should realize that she's not your true love, Honey. That woman can only trouble you, and the woman who will be your true love is only me because I am your first love, honey." Cora laughed a happy laugh that sounded horrible to my ears, having said something that made me sick. I saw Damon gazing lovingly at her, his hand touching her cheek where it used to feel mine. There's something tight inside here again, and I'm sick of remembering it. I hate it because when I remember the past, many loving words turned out to be pathetic lies that made me look stupid. "I apologize for my tardiness. There was something urgent, and it was out of my control. I hoped to come on time and didn't want to keep you waiting." I said calmly, without any emotion at all. However, in reality, I wanted to say something hurtful to the man who was still my husband. Honestly, it's been two years since I was tired of Damon's apathetic attitude towards me. His cold and uncaring attitude made me feel meaningless in his eyes. Now, I'm resigned to whatever his decision is. I want to end all this immediately. "After all the drama you've put up with to keep this marriage going, it's not impossible that you're now acting up again to try and prevent this divorce." I smiled faintly to hide the tightness in my chest at my husband's hurtful words. "Take it easy, Damon. You don't have to worry. I no longer love you. My once passionate love for you seems lost and eroded in the past two years due to your attitude. Now that we are officially divorced, you can get married without any obstacles from me. Congratulations to you both." I could see Damon's angry, glinting eyes glaring at me. His jaw was hardened. It was like he was holding back the emotions churning in his chest and wanted to be released. Then my gaze dropped to her hands that were clenched tightly next to her legs. I remained casual, as if what I said earlier was the truth. "That woman is shameless. But it doesn't matter because our wedding is about to happen," the brown, curly-haired woman whispered to my husband. I didn't care about her opinion at all and chose to continue walking towards the courtyard of the divorce center building to take care of our divorce immediately. I could hear the footsteps behind me following me into the courtyard. Less than ten meters ahead, we would reach the lobby door of the divorce hall building. I didn't know whose cell phone was ringing until I heard a voice that turned out to be my husband's mistress talking to the caller. I didn't care and continued, almost to the glass door before me. "What happened to my father?! Was it an accident?!" I heard the woman's panicked voice, so I couldn't help but stop my footsteps and turn my head towards the couple. Damon looked worried about the woman, who had no idea what had happened. "Cora, what happened?" Damon asked his mistress. Damon looks very concerned and tries to calm his lover down. I was instantly sickened by the couple's interaction. "My father's been in an accident... he's hurt his leg badly. I need to go to the hospital immediately," said the woman, who was already sobbing this time. "Alright, I'll accompany you to the hospital to see how your father is doing." What? It's not that easy for them to go. "Hey, you can't just leave like that. We're going through a divorce soon, and it won't take long." I prevented Damon from leaving to take Cora to the hospital. Damon and the woman gave me a sharp look. The man looked angry at me for trying to stop him from leaving. "You're so stubborn. You're very bad as a woman who doesn't have empathy for people who are in distress." Damon scolded angrily at me. I couldn't help but be annoyed that he didn't have a heart. Does he say I have no empathy? Doesn't he realize that he has no heart? "We'll be leaving soon, Cora." Damon soothed the woman, who nodded in response to his words. "Even if you know that my father is lying sick and still unconscious, you don't care. It's completely different from your attitude towards that woman's father," I said softly. Damon turned to me with his gaze still fixed on me. "Shut up. I'd be happy to know your father is dead." After saying that painful sentence, they left this place. I didn't expect Damon to say that to my father. I can still remember how close they were. Then, a white car slid smoothly in front of the street of the divorce hall building. I let them go with a broken heart. Without realizing it, my tears fell down my cheeks. Suddenly, I wiped it off quickly with the back of my hand. I exhaled deeply, then looked up, staring at the four-story building where all the problems should have been solved. Now, they had to be delayed. I chose to step out of the building. Perhaps I would go home to rest. It had been a tiring day, and my head was spinning. I descended the stairs one by one, and suddenly my body swayed. It looks like my headache has gotten worse. I took some medicine from my bag, took out the contents, and swallowed it. I took a moment to close my eyes before continuing. After I felt my headache was decreasing, I continued my journey home. The atmosphere this afternoon looked very bright. I chose to walk on the sidewalk, which then passed through a city park that looked shady. There were long chairs on each side of the road. I chose to sit for a moment to enjoy the atmosphere this afternoon while breathing in the fresh air. My headache has eased a little. Maybe in fifteen minutes, I'll go back home to rest before the headache comes again. "Addison?" I turned my head towards the voice calling my name. A well-dressed man stood not far from where I was sitting. I frowned, trying to recognize his face. "That's you, Addison. What are you do here?"Addison’s POVA man with bright brown eyes stood right in front of me. I frowned, feeling familiar with the man's face. I seemed to know him before, but who?I cursed my poor memory that always had trouble recognising the faces of people I knew. I tried to recall, so I thought for a moment."Addison." The man called my name again. However, I was trying hard to remember it. Suddenly, my mind went to Damon. Ah! I hate that man. I shook my head quickly."Hey, Addison. Do you still remember me?" asked the man who was now standing right in front of me. "This is an unexpected meeting after our college days. I'm Hayden, remember?" The man again confirmed whether I remembered him or not."Ah, yes. Of course, I remember you. I'm sorry my memory is so bad." I bit my lip, hoping the man wouldn't take offense that I had forgotten him a little.Hayden smiled kindly at me. While I was cursing my lousy memory about him. Hayden was my college friend. I found what Damon had just said to be very funny. He had accused me of wanting a divorce from him because I had someone else. I was indeed quite surprised to find out about my relationship with Hayden. However, after I thought about it again, that was possible because Damon could do anything to find out what he wanted. Like me, he would quickly find out what I was doing. None of that would be difficult for him. Damon can find out everything.I filed for divorce because I was very tired of living in this marriage with Damon, plus his attitude was very different from when I first knew him. Damon's attitude in the past two years is like I don't recognize him. He used to be very warm, and he was a caring man. But, now he's not like the Damon I knew I no longer recognize him.We used to be a couple of teenagers who loved each other for many years. Who then decided to get married. However, after we married for two years, Damon's attitude slowly changed, and I didn't understand why he hated
After my encounter with Damon earlier, my body was getting sicker and weaker. I forced myself to get up after sitting on the cold floor for a long time. I dragged my feet towards the toilet, where I placed some particular medicine in the medicine box.I opened the medicine box and took out a few bottles of a particular medicine that I usually took when I felt pain in my body and head. I know that Damon doesn't know anything about the pain I've been suffering from for the past two years. And I don't think he'll want to know anything about me anymore. It's like I'm nothing in his eyes anymore. I remember the first time I complained to Damon about the pain I felt in my head, but he accused me of seeking attention from him.At first, I admitted that I was seeking his attention because I felt Damon's attitude had changed lately towards me, becoming more indifferent and cold. So, I tried to spoil him to get his attention again and have him back. But in fact, he hated my attitude of delibera
After that unexpected encounter with Damon, I'm currently at the hospital, where I need to check my health. I hoped that Damon and his spies hadn't followed me here. Or, maybe he should know that I'm not pretending to be sick. Then, I headed to Sofia's office to check in with her. I feel very lucky to have a friend like Sofia, who is a doctor. The nurse told me that Sofia was currently examining a patient. So, I waited for her until she was done in the waiting chair in front of her room. I recalled the meeting with Damon, who brought his mistress to our favorite cafe. I didn't expect Damon to bring someone else there at all. It wasn't a big deal, but Damon should have known that if it was our place, he shouldn't have brought another woman there. He should have taken her elsewhere instead of our favorite date spot.I exhale harshly. I don't know why just a trivial matter makes me upset and hurt. It was as if Damon didn't care about my feelings at all.It wasn't long before the door to
We enjoyed lunch while discussing some things that happened in the past when we were in college. I only occasionally responded to the conversation and mostly listened. Sofia and Hayden, on the other hand, were the ones who had the most exciting conversations."Wow, you're becoming a great doctor, Sof," Hayden compliments Sofia smilingly."No, I'm still like a junior and not as great as you think." Sofia returns Hayden's compliment reluctantly."I admit that you are perfect, Sof." Hayden praised again.A cell phone rang, and I saw Sofia signalling Hayden with her hand. "I'll take a phone call first," Sofia said as she got up from her seat and stepped slightly away from us.Hayden returned to enjoying his food while I had finished earlier and was just finishing my drink.I can see that Hayden glances at me. However, I still pretend not to notice. Then, it wasn't long before Sofia finished her call and sat back in her chair."Addy, I'm sorry. Yes, it looks like we can't go home together.
A few days had passed, and I had another painful headache. This was a common occurrence, especially when dealing with Damon. My headache would attack more painfully. I quickly took the headache reliever Sofia gave me and swallowed it.This morning, I had breakfast alone. Yeah, of course, I'm alone. Damon, who is still my husband, never accompanies me in anything I do. I don't want to think about him. My head will hurt again if I keep thinking about him. I enjoy my breakfast reluctantly, but I must eat anyway because it's for my good.As I was enjoying my breakfast, I heard the roar of his car engine being turned off. I got up from my seat to see who was coming. After finding out who had come, I sat at the dining table and enjoyed my hot tea.A few days ago, I was surprised by Jared Leigh, a man I knew was Damon's right-hand man. Damon assigned Jared to take his boss's personal belongings from my house. And today, that guy came back, and I guess he was again appointed to take Damon's pe
Damon gave me a sharp look after hearing the question I had just asked him. With his wicked, loud mouth, he replied to my words casually. "What's wrong with that? This is my house."I felt something stirring inside my chest. Anger, annoyance, hatred, and disgust all rolled into one. How could I not be angry with him for casually bringing his mistress into our home? This is indeed Damon's house, which is also my house, so I have the right to decide who can come to my house. The house we live in is a very beautiful European-style house. I had always envisioned having this kind of dream house because of its unique and classic architecture. Then, after we got married, Damon gifted me a house. He gifted me this dream house as proof of his love for me. At that time, I truly felt like the luckiest woman alive. I also never forgot Damon's beautiful words when he gave me this house."Honey, we will live happily here forever with our children."Oh, how sweet his words were at that time. He made
