Nancy tried so hard to sleep but could not, sleep was eluding her and she knew why. She could not relax, not until she knew that Derek had returned, even if he did not come back to the room. She tried to focus her eyes on the faint light of the candle whose wax was already burning out, but it was no use. Her body was tense, stiff as a board, her thoughts were in disarray.
