He only ever got to hold her when she cried, but the fact that she let him touch her at all made his chest swell with a new emotion.

How could he complain?

This seemed different than the last time, not panicked, gasping for air sobs, just silent streams wetting her slightly rounded face. He wasn't sure quite what to do, she didn't push him away like she had before, no in fact she held onto his forearms as if she were afraid he would push her off now.

He hesitantly pulled her up to lay her head against his shoulder and kissed her temple lightly. She looked up at him slowly, her eyes wide and slightly hidden under those darling heavy lashes. He wished he could ask her, that he could know why she cried, what made her so sad? If she would just tell him he would do whatever he possibly could to keep it from happening again. He was afraid the silence might be too fragile for words, and she would pull back from him.

So he held her, and after a moment put on the first movie
