Allen, Shariq, Tim, and Smith had settled in the few months they were here, when there was news of Roger introducing this practice here. Smith, being a merchant, was particularly tempted to do that. People were already taking normal things at a loan from him, might as well get some benefit too. The idea repulsed Allen and hence he advised Smith against it. Smith listened somewhat, but still choose to do it. After that, the relation just worsened among them such that Smith would not even come for days to weeks to meet them, and the longest absence was for two weeks. When they went to meet him, he said he was busy and would come later. Shariq, although also tempted by this, did not do it as Allen was more strict with him regarding that. Tim had just listened to him at the first moment.
