Carr didn't feel the blow that hit him square in the forehead. His body flew through the air, hitting the back of his head on a large rock. The sickening thud went unheard by the fighting Were's. The crumpled body of the chocolate colored wolf lay still, his chest barely moving. Blood dripped from his nose.
Bryant continued to spray the Beta in the face. He could swear the wolf looked smaller. Was it his imagination? The pack seemed to be taking control and the battle was about to turn. Suddenly, without warning, the Dire Wolf flipped onto his back, showing his belly and baring his neck. The fighting group jumped back and stood stock still. Was this a trick? They looked at each other, taking the moment to catch their breath. Should they honor the request to surrender? The wolf shifted to a human male, smaller than they remembered him earlier. He rolled onto his side and cowered. "Please, forgive me, please. I want to return to the Campbell pack. I don't know what GAlistair walked around Gary slowly. He had become smaller during the extended fight. Gary's Dire Wolf had been gargantuan, but now, he was the size of the surrounding Alphas. Alistair eyed him closely. Gary knew he was cornered. But he wouldn't be submitting to anyone, Alistair knew that. This would be a fight to the death.Rhys watched from the outer ring of wolves. Now that Gary was back to his normal Werewolf size, they would back off. This was Alistair's fight. No one would deny him the right to defend his mate. But if for any reason Gary escaped from Alistair or somehow managed to win the fight, another would take him on. Crane would be next. Gary had been his Beta and disrespected his Alpha and his Alpha's sister. Rhys had no doubts that Gary and Paul would not leave here alive. The only questions were how long the fight would last, and who the ultimate winner would be.The white wolf with the bright blue eyes circled his prey. He studied his every movement.
"Jeff, he's here. They're entering the compound." Trina was dreading this. She was so glad they had extra Doctors and nurses here. Carr was going to take all their attention and there were other casualties coming."Logan, he's your patient.""What? Jeff, what are you doing?" Trina was shocked. Jeff had never handed over a patient to anyone else before, especially the Alpha."Trina, I'm too close. Carr and I grew up together. It's one thing to treat him for a bite wound or a laceration. It's another to have his life in my hands. We're too damn close. And besides, Logan's specialty is Neurology. Maybe it was fate that he showed up here when he did. I trust him. You should too. I'm going to talk to Lee." With that, Jeff left the room.Trina was speechless. She didn't know if she should be proud of Jeff for putting his patient first, or worry that he felt inadequate in some way. She was startled by a gentle hand on her shoulder."We'll take g
The sun could just barely be seen over the horizon. Dusk was usually a quiet time at the compound but today all were awake and busy. The wounded had arrived and Jeff and the team of visiting Doctors and nurses worked tirelessly to care for them.Every chance Jeff got he slipped into Sheila's room, even if it was just to stroke her face and inhale her scent to calm his wolf. She was heavily sedated and wouldn't be allowed to wake up for days. It would save her the pain. He wondered if she would dream about him the way Karen had dreamt of Cole while she was in the drug induced coma.Logan looked into Sheila's room. "There you are, been looking for you."Jeff looked up and started to growl at the invader. He immediately saw it was Logan and quieted his wolf. "Carr?"Logan nodded and walked away from the room. He didn't want to discuss the Alpha's condition with a protective new mate. He waited for Jeff to join him.Jeff reminded his wolf tha
Rhys slammed down the phone as he cursed under his breath."I heard that you know." Katy slipped between him and the offending phone. He let out a big sigh and looked down at her radiant smile. Rhys reached down to push the red hair away from her beautiful face. He held her gently and gazed into her sparkling green eyes. He bent down and pressed his lips to hers, lightly brushing them against her. The scent of mint and cinnamon almost overwhelmed him. He forced himself to stay in control and not let his wolf out.She moaned into his mouth and pressed up into him, her arms encircling his neck, almost pulling herself up to his mouth. She could barely reach him but stretched herself to try.He smiled as they gently kissed and sat down in the nearby chair, pulling her with him into his lap. His lips found her jaw and nibbled his way to her ear. He loved to hear the sounds she made while he tasted her skin. He stopped when he reached the pulse in her n
Nathan nuzzled his beautiful mate's neck, inhaling deeply. He could feel her pain and wanted to help her to feel better. He knew he couldn't do anything to help Carr, but he could at least help her. His bond with Carr was new and just as strong, but he hadn't known him all his life like Lila had. They'd grown up together. Now that Nathan had found her, he would do anything in his power to protect her and it was killing him to feel her fear.Nathan sat in a nearby chair and pulled Lila into his lap, holding her tightly, not saying a word. All around the room the other mated couples held each other for strength. The cubs sat quietly near their parents, not totally understanding the situation but knowing it was serious. No one was alone. Wolves are pack animals, Werewolves are no different. The strength of the wolf is the pack. The Council walked into the dining hall and saw the somber faces and quietly left, not wanting to intrude on the close knit pack. They would m
Rhys looked up and growled low. "Where did you get this? How is this possible?" Rhys' wolf was circling, irate, ready to attack.James looked in the rear view mirror when he heard the growl and saw the ferocious look on Rhys' face. The one they called Jószef was wide eyed and looked like he wanted to jump out of the car, moving or not. James was having a difficult time understanding what Guillame was saying. His accent was thick, maybe french? He wasn't sure."That was my mate Rhys. That picture was taken one month before I sent her to America. She was pregnant with our cub. I smuggled her and as many as I could out of Europe. And then I contacted you, and asked you to keep track of them. Do you remember?" Guillame spoke softly, calmly, in the face of the outraged wolf next to him. "You promised me you would watch over them and track them and report back. And you did for one hundred years. And then you stopped.""Your mate?" Rhys' face softened, his eyes r
Their movements were like a dance and Nathan was leading. He ran to the left and she would leap away to the right. She didn't know he had planned every move. He stopped, his sides heaving, his tongue lolling out of his mouth. She thought she was going to escape. She turned to run and realized too late she was trapped in a ravine, no way out except past the massive blond wolf in front of her. He had bested her. For a fleeting second she was furious with herself and Nathan. But her wolf reminded her that her mate had shown his worthiness of them, and he would make a fine sire to their cubs.Nathan moved forward slowly, but with purpose. He walked around Lila, keeping his distance. Now that he had her cornered she wanted him inside her. She moved forward and tried to turn her tail to his face. He would growl and nip her flank, making her face him again. This was his dance, not hers. He was to lead. His wolf wanted the control, wanted to see her full submission, not games. They
Alistair and Rhys walked into Carr's office and were shocked to see Carr seated at his desk. He was pale, but bright and alert. He had a bandage that covered most of his forehead but a jagged red line was visible at the edge. Jeff was seated close by his side with his medical bag at his feet. The Betas seated already in the room looked so much more relaxed than they had ten hours ago when they were waiting to hear if Carr would even live, and now he was back at work."Carr, I can't believe this. Hours ago you were near death and now you look great!" Alistair was amazed. Of course Werewolves healed quickly, but this was surprisingly fast for such a massive injury. "Are you sure you're up to this?" He looked from the Alpha to the Doctor. The Doctor didn't look happy at all."I'm falling down on the job. Besides, I have my own personal physician here. If I over do it, I'm sure he'll roll me right back to the hospital." Carr motioned to the wheelchair in which he was s
