Turn of the Tide

“Mommy…”

A small, frightened, and sobbing Angel's voice woke Minah up from her sleep the next day. When she opened her eyes and gazed at the bed, Tobias was no longer there. All she could see was Angel, rocking her head side to side. The kid choked a sob and her hands were up in the air, seemingly reaching for something or perhaps, someone. She must be dreaming.

“Mommy…” she called once again, murmuring. “It hurts…”

Yawning, Minah got up from the couch after pulling the heavy comforter off of her. Where did Tobias go? How could he leave his child alone in this state?

She dragged her feet towards Angel, about to shake her shoulders to wake her up but Angel caught her hands and held it tightly.

“I’m scared, Mommy. Don’t leave me… Don’t leave me, please…” she cried softly, begging. Her voice sounded so frightened.

Minah blinked. She felt something stuck in her throat while staring at Angel lying down on the bed, teary-eyed.
