We were all seated. Envelopes, grand and small, laid on the table as we all stared.

I couldn’t relax and I had no way of escaping the tension, the confused glares, and the mean stares exchanged among everyone. I couldn’t even ask for a cup of water or heads would be rolling.

“Welcome to our home, Campbells. I’m grateful for accepting our invitation to discuss a sensitive matter, likewise, to the Adams and the Dietrich family.” Kioko started.

Thank God. I thought as she eased the tension.

“Should we have dinner first or you’d like to get down to business?” Kioko asked.

“We’re not relinquishing our adoption to Isaac as his parents. He’s my son.” Carson, Isaac’s dad, spoke up. “We raised him with our sweat and blood and we won’t be giving him back.”

Lucas stared at Kioko, and he frowned. He folded his arms and crossed his legs.

“I mentioned nothing about parental claims. I have no interest in reclaiming Isaac. We just wanted to talk and further note, Isaac is also my son.”
