CHAPTER 108

Helena felt a lump forming in her throat as she listened to Bruno's words. It was difficult to accept that everything was falling apart so rapidly. She glanced at the children in the back seat, feeling a pang in her heart at the thought of the impact the separation would have on them.

As Bruno helped Helena out of the truck, she felt her body tense, the sensation of stepping on unstable ground. She followed Bruno into the living room, where she sat on one of the sofas, looking around at the house that used to be their home.

“How were the days without me here?” Helena asked, trying to keep her voice steady despite the storm of emotions within her.

Bruno sighed, sitting in an armchair across from her. His face looked tired, burdened with the weight of the decisions he had made.

“They were difficult,” he admitted, his gaze meeting Helena's. “You're missed here, Helena. More than I ever imagined.”
