Ep 4: One Last Sight

Amyra was sitting on the chair the same way as this afternoon but this time she was not seen as some jailbird.

Instead, as if she was some respected fugitive.

Daniel, as he said, took care of everything there. He was still talking to the officers when Amyra was staring at the stars from the window.

There were so many stars in the sky tonight. Strange! She couldn't be happier unlike before. Every time she would see stars she would be delighted but now… all her contentment was gone.

Sigh!

Ezra scowled at her, ensuring her that everything had been taken care of and she glanced at the police officers.

Reaching out of the police station as she saw Chloe, she couldn't help but burst into tears.

Amyra hastily ran into Chloe's arms and wrapped her arms around her tight.

"Chloe."

"I am so sorry, Amy. I am such a failure, I couldn't help at all. Amy…" Chloe burst into tears.

It was Chloe who told Amyra not to believe Zenaya like a fool and Amyra still believed her. Only if Amyra really could know what Zenaya's problem was. Why did she…

She couldn't tell how sad she was but was still happy to see her best friend. Ezra was standing at some distance while talking to someone on the call.

"Amy, I'm so happy to see you. Babe."

They cried for a while and then Chloe's eyes caught on Ezra. She never met him before and she knew that Amyra didn't know him too then who was this man? She thought.

Chloe was the closest to Amyra so she knew everything about her, including the guys she knew.

"Who is he? Amy." Chloe questioned curiously.

"He is…"

Amyra was thinking about what to say, it's not like she didn't want to answer her but it was such a different case.

Complicated!

Just as she was about to say it, she was stopped by Ezra as he sauntered towards them. He had that stony face and looked as if there was nobody more serious than him.

Ignoring Chloe, he whispered something in her ears. Amyra looked frigid as if trying to act normal but Chloe could tell that he must have said something bizarre to her.

'But how can I do that…' Amyra gripped her fists as if trying to fight with something. It was not easy for her at all.

"Chloe…"

"What's going on?"

Like Amyra thought Chloe already suspected something. Amyra stared at Ezra. Chloe caught sight of them.

Before Chloe could ask any more questions, abruptly her phone started chiming.

Judging by the way she looked Amyra knew who must have called her.

Amyra smiled at her sadly and let out assuringly, "Go and take the call."

"...Sorry, I will be back soon, just give me a minute."

Chloe walked away while holding the phone near her ears. "Hello?"

The minute Chloe left, Amyra's facial expression changed. She looked so dreadful. Her gloomy face said it all, how sad she was.

Ezra opened the car door for her and looked at her commandingly.

Taking one last glance at her bestfriend, Amyra gave up. She so much wanted to stay here.

Letting out a sigh of remorse, and leaving a tear down her beautiful eyes, she hopped in the car.

The door was closed. Amyra could still see her best friend talking to someone on the call, unknown of the fact that she was leaving.

'You can't tell anybody where you are going, so get in the car. We are leaving.' She remembered what he told her a while ago, that she had to leave there without telling Chloe about it.

She was told to not talk about anything from now on. Amyra couldn't guess how many barriers there would be but there was nothing she could do anymore. Rotting in hell was not what she chose.

"Wait, Amy…"

Seeing Chloe run after the car to stop it, Amyra felt her heart devastated into a thousand pieces. She didn't want it, no but who cared?

Slowly Chloe's silhouette was dwindling, Amyra could only look at the sky outside the car window and let her tears shed away.

In the car, Amyra asked him, "Can I take my clothes with…"

"No."

His voice was rigid as he answered her before she could complete the sentence.

"I see… Then, can I go home for one last time?"

"No, Mr Bryant did not allow you to."

That was another no. Well, she didn't expect to hear a 'yes' anyway.

Amyra felt so much like crying. Why? Why was her life now in another man's hand? She had no say in anything but…

She for one last time asked him with expectation in her eyes, "Then can I…"

"No…"

"You didn't hear me yet."

"..."

A moment of stillness took place inside the car before he asked, sounding thoughtful, "What is it?"

"I want to see my parents for one last time. It won't take long, I will…"

"... I will call my boss first."

"Ok…"

"You have thirty minutes in your hand, be quick."

"Thank you."

Ezra left her in the morgue room where she could at least see her parents for one last time. Thankfully, she was allowed to come here.

Maybe it was because of Mr Bryant's power or somewhat that there was nobody at all, the floor was empty.

With her precarious fingers, she touched the white cloth that was covering the two dead bodies. Amyra didn't have the energy to see their faces, something was draining her.

She closed her eyes and then with her quivering carcass she slowly moved the cloth over a little. Amyra saw Sanaeha's face and swerved around hastily.

Tears started dripping down from her eyes.

"...Mom. I am sorry… I am so sorry." She cried out. "I couldn't protect you, Mom… how did all these things happen… how…"

She remembered her mom wanted to do something for her on her birthday, it was her 18th birthday after all.

Though Amyra didn't have that good relationship with her father, Sanaeha meant something to her no matter how their relationship was…

She couldn't still take it, so soon things seemed to change.

"It was yesterday, I was in my room. I was… It still feels so fake but… I feel so deserted now, Mom. I don't know what I should do. Why did you leave me alone… Mom, please tell me what I should do…"

Unable to hold onto herself she couldn't stand anymore. Slowly her knees felt fragile, she lost balance and touched the cloth. Sanaeha's ghostly pale face got her.

No, she was not scared but she didn't just know what was happening. "You know Mom when I came to this city. I had so many… many dreams. After grandma died, I thought I got another home. I thought it would be a lifetime here but I was… everything ended, nothing left."

Amyra remembered that Sanaeha and her didn't have many photos together, hardly two or three maybe.

Since young Amyra had been living with her grandma until she died and she was shifted back to the city.

Everything was stinging her. Amyra wiped off her tears as she suddenly felt like someone was close to the door.

She looked in the space and closed her eyes. "I will be leaving here tonight. I don't know where I will be going but… I… I will find out who killed my family. Mom, I will find the killer and punish them, I will become a lawyer if I can… I will."

Amyra turned around after saying so. It was her promise, even if she wouldn't be able to be a lawyer she would surely punish her parents' killer.

Knock! Knock!

The door of the morgue opened and she looked down. It was hard for her to control her tears. She probably didn't want him to see her crying, she was not weak.

"We have to leave now."

Amyra didn't look at him but strolled away. She was leaving this place, maybe forever. She didn't know what was awaiting her in the future.

'Everything will be ok, don't… don't…'

Rush!

"Miss Cassidy? Miss Cassidy?" Amyra could see Ezra's face getting blurry as she was falling to the ground.

Her head was spinning, her world was crashing down her feet… yet she could see her parents looking at her from a distance. Sanaeha was smiling at her and Amyra broadened her hand, "Mom…"
