Zayne pressed the phone to his ear, trying to control the anger that was seeping through. There was so much anger that he had to stare up at the ceiling and steady his breath.

"Boss" Maximo's voice came over the speaker, "Are you there?"

"I am," Zayne muttered, narrowing his eyes; he knew he shouldn't flare up over the phone because his first cousin didn't understand the word "no," which he had said countless times over the phone.

Damon was in trouble; he could smell it. When Damon was in trouble, that was when he remembered he had ties with the Mafia, though he knew that wasn't his fault but Aunt Maria's; but then there was Clara; she had as much connection with the Derinem's.

But Damon... Since they crossed paths when he was ten and Damon was much younger, they never got along—well, he never got along with Damon, to be fair, but it was a case of someone who thought their worries should be carried by other people.
