Chapter Thirty

Rex held his hand up to signal Felix to stop his horse.  Without speaking, he pointed through the trees in the direction of a nearby clearing.  Felix took a moment to study the scene before him, nodded, and dismounted.  They slowly walked their horses toward an area that was dense with oversized bushes. 

“That strange woman is wrinkled like Alice,” Felix whispered. “Do you think she has the disease as well?”

“Kendra has an arrow pointed at her,” Rex whispered back.  “I want to get closer to hear what is being said.”

One of the mutation effects that Rex experienced from his early childhood nuclear contamination exposure was acute hearing.  Therefore, he was the better person to move closer to listen.  Realizing this, Felix nodded and took the reins of both horses. 

Rex was gone only a matter of minutes before he returned white faced and shaking with anger. “Alice
