Chapter 1
Miranda was walking, but her gaze was fixed on her phone as she texted a coworker when she collided with someone. If it hadn't been for that person, Miranda would have surely fallen down and embarrassed herself at this party. "I am sor..." The words were caught in her throat when she saw the person with whom she crashed. How can she ever forget him? She has longed to see him for many years. It flabbergasted Eric to see his wife after seven years in his arms. If it weren't for Lizzy, his daughter, then he wouldn't know for how long he would have kept her in his arms. It felt very familiar and too good to be true to have her so close to him. Miranda was astounded to see her daughter so grown up after only seven years. She is now ten years old and has evolved into a beautiful girl. Her eyes had always yearned to see her precious angel. "Dad, this party is extremely dull. When can we go home?" She asked him, completely ignoring her mother. Miranda was a s

Chapter 2
Miranda was distorted. She wished for nothing more than for things to return to normal after the misfortune. It's a shame that her life will now be filled with loneliness. But she has to be strong. And with that in mind, she went to work. Miranda worked at Little Stars, an orphanage. Her uncle used to own this place, but she has taken over the management since his death. She loves the place from the bottom of her heart. But, Miranda was well aware that she would be unable to show her daughter the love she deserved on the day she left. So, she spends time with the kids here. It can be described as a kind of replacement or redemption, and everyone needs one reason in their life to help them survive. And this was one of hers. Miranda arrived at her destination quickly and entered her cabin. She needed to complete some paperwork for the adoption of one girl who was leaving the orphanage to start a new life. It always made her sad when one of the kids had to

Chapter 3
Miranda has been the only one on Eric's mind for the past few days. So many thoughts were battling in his brains. Why does she still have such an impact on him after all this time? He was doing well without her. She had to barge back into his life just as he thought he could move on. No jokes there, but he is well aware that he will never be able to move on from her. Eric was walking past the City hospital exit hall when he noticed Miranda approaching. "What the hell are you doing here?" He spoke his thoughts louder than he wanted to. She stammered. She couldn't think of the right way to respond to him, having caught her off guard. "I... Um... I came to meet the kids in the cancer ward." Which was not entirely wrong. Because she does interact with the children whenever she comes here? Eric wasn't convinced, but he didn't ask her any more questions or express his doubts in front of her. "How about you? Are you okay?" Miranda asks him worriedly.

Chapter 4
Lander and Rachel were both astonished when they found Miranda had abandoned her husband and daughter for an unknown reason. Miranda, they believed, was not the type of person who would give up her family for selfish reasons. She began to appear stressed and apprehensive as the days passed before she left them. They always suspected that something was bothering her and tried to talk to her, but she persuaded them that everything was fine. Lander and Rachel exchanged knowing glances and went to greet her. They were still convinced that their daughter-in-law had made such a significant decision for a good reason. They attempted to contact her after she left, but they were unable to do so. "Hello, Miranda. It's been a very long time." Rachel was the first to speak. Miranda was taken aback when she noticed her in-laws standing in front of her. First, it was Eric, and now it’s them. It appeared that the entire world was conspiring against her. "What a surp

Chapter 5
Eric had just finished cleaning up the kitchen after his daughter had left for school with a neighbor when the doorbell rang. He opened the door only to find his parents standing there. "What a pleasant surprise, Mom and Dad! What are you two doing here this early?" He asked them as he let them into his house. "We came to speak with you." His father informed him. "So early? It must be something important." Eric stated. "It is, in fact. So how come you didn't tell us you and Lizzy met Miranda?" Rachel asked. "How did you find out? Anyway, it's not important." He tried to ignore them. "We saw her last night at Midnight Snacker," Lander explained. "Wonderful." He said it sarcastically. "Is that it, Eric? All you have to do is say, 'wonderful,' and you are done." His mother exclaimed. "What else do you want me to say, mom? She left Lizzy and me. There is nothing anyone can ever do. She can't just expect us to take h

Chapter 6
Eric was about to enter the hospital’s lift when he heard someone call for the lift to be stopped. Miranda’s reappearance in the hospital surprised him. "Thank you so much..." Miranda was taken aback when she noticed Eric in the lift. "What are you doing here?" Miranda asked him. "One of my friends was involved in an accident, so I am going to see him. So, how about you?" He asked her. "I came to meet the children in the cancer ward." She gave the same reply as before. "Again?" He asked, his brow furrowed. "Yes." She gave him an uneasy smile. In contrast to the last time, he noticed Miranda fidgeting with her fingers. She always does that when she lies. "Okay..." He stared blankly. They were both quiet. Miranda stepped off the lift after a few seconds. "It's good to see you again." He nodded in response to what she said. Eric followed his wife instead of going to meet his friend. He was dumbfounded when he saw her

Chapter 7
Miranda was tapping her foot impatiently while Benji was debating which flower to purchase. "Just pick a goddamn flower, Benji. You simply giving her flowers will make her happy. It doesn't matter which flower you gave her; the fact that you went out of your way to give her flowers is in itself a big deal." She exasperatedly told him. "What if she doesn't like the color of the flower, Miranda? I don't want to upset her. She is a friend of mine." Benji elaborated. "In any case, none of these flowers appeal to me." "Benji..." She was about to say something, but Benji exclaimed excitedly. "Look at that, a black rose. This is perfect." He chirped happily as if he was a child. "You want to give her a black rose. You know that right, it is very rare and expensive?" She asked him with surprise. Benji's response surprised her and made her feel awed. "Of course, Miranda. My intention in sending her flowers is to make her feel special. The rose

Chapter 8
Eric was preparing dinner for himself and his daughter in the kitchen while Lizzy and her friends were doing group studies in the living room. He was about to leave the kitchen to finish some of his office work in the room when he overheard Lizzy’s friend discussing their mother. His daughter, unlike others, was listening to her friends in silence, and his heart clenched at that moment. During his heartbreak, he lost sight of the fact that Lizzy was still a child who longed for her mother's love. He may have loved her a lot in an attempt to fill the void left by Miranda's departure, but no matter how much he tries, he will never be able to fill that place. Lizzy was aware of Miranda's existence, except for the fact that she had abandoned all of them seven years ago. He knew that he needed to inform his daughter about her mother's identity. Miranda kept her word and stayed away from Lizzy when he asked her to. But now, he must bridge the gap between them.

Chapter 9
When she heard a knock on the door, Miranda said loudly, "Come in." "Hey," Eric said. Miranda was surprised to see him there, smiling at her. "Hey," she said hesitantly. "May I take a seat?" He asked her. "Oh, yeah... I apologize. Please take a seat?" She scratched her forehead. "So, what is it that has brought you here?" She asked him curiously. "I have been thinking a lot about everything relating to us, and I am tired of us shouting and insulting each other. Things may have changed significantly in the past, but you are still the woman I have always loved and the mother of my child, so I wanted to call a truce." He explained everything to her. "I am not sure how to respond to that, Eric. I think I'd like that." With a small smile, she agreed with him. "So, as a friendly gesture, would you like to have dinner at my place, your place, or any restaurant, whatever you prefer?" He proposed to he

Chapter 10
Miranda awoke the next day in unfamiliar surroundings. The last thing she remembers is having dinner with Eric, and everything after that is a blur. She has no recollection of it. She walked out of the unknown bedroom, hoping she was at Eric's place rather than a stranger. She was relieved to discover that she was indeed in Eric’s house. "You are up." Eric said, prompting her to turn around. "Can you tell me what happened last night?" She asked him curiously, "And why is my head hurting so much? It's like having a hangover." "I am not sure what you're talking about." Eric said too quickly, fearful of what might happen next, as Miranda had a calculating look in her eyes where he thought last events would come to her. "What exactly did you put in the coke?" With a glare, she inquired. "As I previously stated, I have no idea what you are talking about." He attempted to avoid the subject. "You are unbelievable, Eric. I had no idea
