“Hey,” I tried to hide the raspiness in my voice from crying when I answered Xander's call.
“Hey, how are you?” His voice was so deep and smooth that my insides were already melting.
“I’m good, thanks, and you?”
“Better now,” he paused, “I hope you weren’t upset that I sent you flowers.”
“You sent…” Dez was dead, “hey can you hang on just a second?” I muted it the second he said yes and stormed into the other room, I know Dez didn’t approve, and this was something he would do.
“Seriously?” I was leaning forwards with a hand on my hip as Dez was suddenly walking up the stairs.

The pain in my chest was mounting, it felt like the night we found out that dad died like my chest stopped moving on its own, trying to convince itself that if it didn’t breathe, it couldn’t feel pain, but when I took the next breath, all the pain that had mounted would flood in and spread through my whole body.I could hear a clicking sound behind me, right before a small voice called out for me to wait.
