Chapter Four

Colt threw his head back and laughed.  Watching Fiona’s quick escape from the office on Friday was a comic relief, a part of him wondered if she was going to be worth the battle. He had never lost to a woman before. Well, it was a new week and he couldn’t wait to see what show she was going to put up today, to be honest, he was enjoying this more than he should.

Fiona took a deep breath to be as calm as she could be, then she rapped at the door before going in. She knew she was in trouble working with Colt, she had tried to delay there personal meeting by spending more time with her colleagues, but everyone had work to do and of course, she couldn’t hide forever.

Colt leaned on her desk as she hurriedly made her way inside, he knew it was quiet uncomfortable for her, but he was enjoying the show way too much, he straightened up to leave her seat and she took two steps backward.

“Did i develop a communicable disease or i suddenly developed a bad smell that you can’t tolerate?”, he asked.

“No you didn’t”, she blushed.

“Then why are you running away from me?”, he asked amused.

“I am not running away from you Colt, I have just been busy”, she lied, rolling her eyes. She had to try and act like he doesn’t have any effect on her even if she knew that was a lie, because it seemed Colt was enjoying this game way too much than he should.

“Your actions speaks differently from your words” he said, amused.

“Sorry to burst your bubbles Colt, I have no reason to run away whatsoever, you have no effect on me and you never would”, she lied with her tongue in her teeth.

He waited until she swallowed, with the intent to make sure she was watching him, when she did, he responded. “Good. I love challenges”.

“Is that all this is Colt?, a challenge to you?”, Fiona asked.

Colt knew it was more than a challenge, more than he was willing to admit to himself. He didn't know why exactly, but he couldn’t just let her go or act like nothing happened that night, he wanted more, there was a vacuum in his life that only her could fill. He knew it from that night. He surprised himself with the next thing he said. But realized that was the truth.

“I want a relationship with you Fiona, isn’t it obvious?”.

“I don’t do relationships Colt, lets drop this and keep things professional”, she said.

“What have you got against relationships?”, Colt asked instinctively, propping one hip against her desk.

“I am not willing to give up everything for love”, she said, not wanting to look hurt, she didn’t want Colt to have a clue that there was more to what she was saying.

“That sounds bitter, no one gives up everything just because they got into a relationship”, Colt said.

She shrugged, trying to act like she wasn't affected by what he was saying, and finally glanced up at him. “Not bitter, its realistic Colt” , she said.

“ I can make you change your misconception about that, I want more  than a night with you ”.

“ I do not intend to change my mind Colt, let’s drop this “, she said.

“ I am not giving up on you, don’t bother trying”. Colt said, leaning towards her, he brushed his nose against her cheek, and breathed deeply. “ Hmm, you smell so good “.

She was caught in the web, totally rattled by his closeness and the huskiness of his voice. All she wanted to do was to grab him and intoxicate herself with his lips. She wanted to kiss him desperately and have her way with him, but she couldn’t because Colt obviously wanted more than she was willing to give “.

“ What do you have against love and relationships?”, Colt asked.

How could she explain to this attractive young man that love was not her priority, how could she make him understand that love never ends well. She learnt that from her parents failed marriage early in life. How could she explain to her boss that love only brings pain and makes you loose yourself in the process. She shrugged, trying to feign nonchalance, of which she was far from feeling. “ I don’t think love is a priority, i have important stuffs going on in my life and i do not have the luxury time to fall in love or even pursue a relationship, you see, i have a beautiful career here and i can’t risk it for love”, she said, trying to persuade him.

Colt was obviously not buying her excuses. “ I would change your ideology about love and relationship Fiona, i can do just that “, he said.

Damn!!!, the offer he was making was way too tempting but she couldn’t give in, she knew where it would end, he was just her newly found weak point and she couldn’t let him see that, his lips a full meal she wanted to indulge in but she couldn’t, Colt would want more, an attractive force was beckoning her to just lean in and have a quick brush of lips with him but she couldn’t. With Colt, one kiss wouldn’t be enough.

It was just like he was reading her mind, he leaned in and brushed his lips against hers, lingering until all her hesitation left her. “ I like you Fiona and i ain’t giving up until i have you all to myself”, with this much said, he kissed her long and hard.

She closed her eyes, opened her lips and he deepened the kiss, thrusting his tongue past the barrier of her to give her a deeper drugging kiss.

She tilted her head sidewards and he brushed his lips down the sensitive part of her neck, Fiona moaned, caught in the moment until she realized what was happening, she backed away abruptly. “ We shouldn’t be doing this Colt, we have to keep things professional” she said.

“ This feels perfect, and i know you feel it too “, he said, and he took her lips deeply once again and finally let her go. He left the office to the convenience to give her little time to cool off, this woman obviously has a strong effect on him.

Fiona knew she was in trouble from the moment she saw him at the conference room that morning, and was in bigger trouble for getting drunk that night, because if she wasn’t, all this wouldn’t have been happening in the first place. Having a taste of Colt’s lips when she was not drunk was her biggest mistake because his lips was one thing she had gotten addicted to with just another kiss. She had tried to use her drunken state as an excuse even when she knew there was something different about him, she couldn’t use that anymore, she was undeniably attracted to Colt, same way he was attracted to her, and he had made it crystal clear that he had no intentions of letting things be or keeping it overly professional like she wanted. Of all things she had learnt about Colt from her aged boss Billy, she knew Colt was a goal getter, one who doesn’t give up until he gets exactly what he wants, that wouldn’t have been an issue, it was a typical prosperous business man strategy, but the big problem here was that she was the target here, Colt wanted her, and not just for sex, but for keep. If sex was the case, it wouldn’t have been a problem, she had a fantasy to explore his body as well, she didn’t have a good weekend because of her erotic dreams about Colt. How does she explain to her boss that she could only give hot nights of sexual bliss but not her heart?. She would have loved to ease the sexual tension between them by indulging in another sexual act, but Colt had made it clear that he doesn’t want just sex with her, he wanted commitments and was bent on changing her misconception about love. Fiona wasn’t ready to give up everything she had worked for all because of love. Over the years, she had succeeded in putting men at arm length and the very first night she had let her guards down and had a one night drunk sex, it happened to be with her new boss. It was absolutely unfair, she didn’t deserve this from this cruel world, fate would have chose someone else. She could feel fate laughing at her and it pissed her off more than she had already been pissed. All the self control she had built over the years had crumbled just at the sight of this man and she didn’t like that. Colt doesn’t even need to touch her, all it took was just one stare and she would be wet in her panties. No man had ever had such effect on her and that is exactly why it felt scary. Maybe her hormones had finally come alive at the frustrating age of twenty-five, it was really unfair, who would believe she was a twenty-five years old virgin until that night?, she was frustrated at Colt’s refusal to accept no for an answer. He was damn stubborn, just like his father, she thought fondly. Her aged boss Billy was one with a stubborn charm, and it was annoying that Colt had to take that trait from his father. Now they weren’t just dealing with a drunk affair, she had to live with the memory of a drugging kiss that took her breath away. She wants Colt but she couldn’t have him, he wants a relationship and she hates commitment, she wasn’t a believer of love and she knew he wouldn’t want a loveless relationship. One thing was sure, she was forever going to be in charge of her life, she wasn’t giving that power to anyone. She didn’t want love to mess up her life same way it did to her dad, she didn’t want to die a bitter soul just like her father. Love only brought pain and she didn’t want to be bruised by its cruel hands. Loosing her father years back  as a result of high blood pressure was a confirmation that she didn’t need to walk down that lane too, it wasn’t an easy experience but she couldn’t tell Colt this, he wouldn’t understand and she didn’t want anyone to feel pity for her. All she had to do was to avoid him no matter how persistent he could be, they had to keep things professional whether he likes it or not, she didn’t have the luxury of getting her heart broken twice.

Colt was stubborn but she was also determined to make things go her way. All this wouldn’t have happened if it hadn’t been for Bella. If not for Bella’s persuasion that day, maybe she would have just met Colt for the first time at the conference room instead and there wouldn’t have been all this dramas, he wouldn’t have been pestering her for a meaningless relationship believing they had unfinished business. She knew he took commitment seriously but that wasn’t the case with her, she doesn’t do commitments. Love and commitment goes in handy and love wasn’t in her vocabulary, it was too much of a big deal for her. What exactly had she gotten herself into?, she thought. She knew fate was playing games with her, but it should have known she wasn’t interested in whatever it was plotting. Her lips spoke differently but her body ensured it frustrated her whenever she was around the man she shouldn’t get close to. She had to build up her shells a bit higher, she had to learn self control and keep Colt at arm length, he was big trouble and she didn’t want troubles.
