Chapter 37 - Traps
Athena's POV
"I thought he was too weak to sheer from the underworld." Erik snapped. After finding the note, Erik linked me right away. He could feel my fear and anger through our bond. We rushed to his office and called for Malcolm. Since the battle with Dela, he had given us an amulet, which allowed us to call on him when needed.
"He may not be in the Underworld, might have never returned, due to how weak he was after Dela was killed," Malcolm explained, his brows furrowed as he spoke.
"Can we not track him and lure him back here?" Drake asked. I hadn't spoken since we arrived in the office. I couldn't keep my mind from thinking of the letter. He had been watch

Chapter 38 - Reunited Erik's POV "Gabriel, While we're gone, I need you to be, Beta Paul's, second in command. You have proven yourself more than capable, even more so, during our last battle. If there are any immediate threats, you know our protocols. You are to take over Drakes posts and duties." I said. We called Gabriel in after Malcolm left, and Athena went to our room to rest. We filled him in on what had happened. As Delta, he had a right to know the specifics. I explained why we needed to go and why Drake couldn't stay behind. Only the four of us would be going. We had the best fighting chance. Fewer lives to risk, Athena and Malcolm had their powers to help break any wards. Drake was the best fighter, besides Lucas. As Alpha of the pack, my presence was necessary to p
Lilacs and Lavender Athena's POV We all sat down in my father's office. We let him explain everything, let him and myself have a moment to absorb what had happened. "Bree and Vincent were great people, strong and determined warriors, who held pride for their pack. I had met them in an annual pack meeting. It was held at the midnight pack that year. It switched every year, allowing other packs to see how your members were. Vincent was the top warrior, and Bree, one of the best female warriors in their pack. I had asked their pack Alpha about them. He spoke of their kindness and strength, how he was proud to have two of the best warriors on his side. When I asked about their family, he had said that it was just them. They couldn't have pups, despite all the methods they ha
Chapter 40 - The Kings Return and Broken Bonds A soft knock at the door woke me. I slowly opened my eyes, the warmth from Erik wrapped around me, making it hard to convince myself to move. His arms were holding me against him, a feeling I would never grow tired of. Finally, with a groan, I pulled myself from him and swung my legs over the edge. Looking out the window, I could only see darkness, telling me it was daytime outside the forest. The light to the room slowly brightened, mimicking the rise of the sun. I looked over to see Drake sprawled out on the floor, his hair spread across his face, drool on his cheek. I swallowed the laugh that threatened to erupt. Then, shaking my head, I walked past him and opened the door. Malcolm waited outside, holding a tray of food. "Good morning, Athena." He said, his voice smoot
Chapter 41 - Royal Guards Erik's POV The air felt warm, the feeling of electricity wrapping around us. I stared at my mate in awe. The magic danced around her, enjoying the freedom and excited about finding its new host. The glowing skin lit up the area surrounding her, the power she emitted called to me. She was the spitting image of the woman who stood in front of her. Yet, she held the same devotion to her pack and mate, too, protecting them with her life, something Athena had already done and would do again, without hesitation. The light around her slowly faded, revealing the glow of the forest behind her. The whole earth around us seemed to take a breath of fresh air, humming with the power flowing through it. Athena turned back to her father, hu
Chapter 42 - Luna Athena's POV We celebrated well into the night, many pack members stopping us to give thanks. The events of today, constantly playing in my mind. Phoenix felt the same excitement and nervousness as I did. Though, her typical voice of reason helped stop it from eating away at us. So many questions and realizations crossed our minds. If I weren't Dacian, then I would have, potentially, become the leader of this pack. A trained warrior, still linked to the Dacian line and the moon goddess and the mother. A warm hand wrapped around my waist, pulling me close. The sparks filled my senses as I leaned into his touch. "Everything okay?" Erik whispered his hot breath on my n
Chapter 43 - Celebration Athena’s POV Everyone gathered, stripping their clothes, to prepare for the shift. A run, to symbolize the union of a pack, was performed after any mating or leader ceremony. The excitement of everyone around us filled the air—the buzz of their energy prickling my skin. Phoenix excitement mixed with mine, the adrenaline from the bond is completed, coursing through our veins. Erik and I shifted first, the rest following. Phoenix and Creed circled each other, the other wolves bowed, waiting for our command. Creed let out a loud howl, Phoenix doing the same. The wolves followed our lead as we started toward the forest. Running through the trees, feeling the damp earth beneath our feet and the wind rushing through our fur. We ran until the moon sat high in the sky, shining brightly down on us. Ever
Chapter 44 - The Crowning We waited outside the forest line for Drake and Rachel. As the Betas in this pack, they would become our advisors during our ruling. Once we were crowned, our pack would become the next Royal Guards, absorbing our power, linking them to our lifeline. They would not become immortal beings, but they would live a longer lifespan than most after last night's exhaustion consumed me instantly. The nerves were coming back, full force, this morning. The only thing keeping me grounded was Erik. The warmth of his hand in mine, the smell of chocolate and campfire filling my nose, and the sound of his voice calmed my racing heart. As the sun slowly kissed the earth hello, I couldn't help but feel the same way I felt before I killed Dela. I could feel Erik's eyes on me, feel his concern through the bond. "We're replacing the bad with the good. These portals will bring happiness and peace from now on," Erik said lowly, his vo
Chapter 45 - Favourite Flower. The partying continued until the early morning. The three moons began to kiss the earth goodnight as the sun rose to kiss it good morning. As we walked back to our room, stinking of sweat, dirt, and fire, I couldn’t help but stop and stare at the sun as it rose into the sky—the clouds, as fluffy as marshmallows, and the sky a unique shade of turquoise. I let out a deep breath. For the first time in months, I felt like I could breathe again. I felt like the world wasn’t trying to drag me to the ground. Though we had new duties in unchartered territory, new challenges and a long life ahead of us, I know we can conquer it all together. For just a moment, life finally felt simple, peaceful even, and I wanted to remember this moment for the rest of my life. I felt Erik's soft lips press my temple again, his voice
