CHAPTER FIVEGrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! That was the alarm clock. Ava reached for it blindly and punched it off. She pulled the duvet past her stomach as she sat up and wiped her eyes sore. She walked into the toilet where she urinated, washed her face, and came out again. The alarm clock which was in the drawer close to her bed gave her a beautiful memory. The alarm clock was her twenty-sixth birthday gift. It reminded her of her mom’s elder sister; Aunt Caroline, her favorite relative. She remembered how she had left her home in Puerto Rico and traveled down just to see her after she had been admitted to the hospital. CHAPTER FOURShe tried to leave the hospital premises so many times all to no avail. The next day, she was sitting on the bed facing the window side. Her heart was palpitating, ‘what if Max is aware that I am here? That’ll be an easy finish-off, right? What if he is searching for me? When I get discharged, how safe would I be outside there? What if I get the police involved? Would they see me as an accomplice?’ She hadn’t even touched her food. She picked a small mirror on the table and stared at her reflection. There were several cuts on her lips and a part of her lower lip was swollen. She also got a black eye too and it was shut halfway. There were some brown patches here and there on her face. CHAPTER THREERaquel pushed the door open and banged it loudly after her. She made for the drawer close to the bed, opened and closed it. She went to the wardrobe, opened it, and shut it back again. Her face was red with anger. She murmured as she roamed the room. Noah didn’t raise his face; his eyes were focused on the computer and he was absentmindedly punching the keys noisily. This very act was getting Raquel more and more infuriated. Her action was getting the room all heated up but Noah seemed not to care. At last, he turned to look at her, “why are you acting like a crazy woman? Can’t you see I’m trying to work? Can’t I have peace at least? What the hell is your problem?” he combed his hair with his fingers, trying so hard not to overreact.“You can’t be at peace when I’m not at peace either.” Raquel blurted. Noah seemed not to be ready for an argument, so he stood up to leave.
