Chapter Sixty-Eight

“James!” My voice broke as I took him in. In the middle of the cell, he was hung up like sausage left to dry, his hands chained up to the ceiling. Blood trickled from his temple, joining the dried blood from earlier, and his shirtless body was torn with whips, blood trickling from the opened wound.

His eyes were dark and his lips split, and the whole sight broke me beyond repair as I shook in my spot. His eyes met mine, and despite the pain he was going through, his eyes filled with warmth. “Rosalind- you’re here.” He grunted out, and I shook myself awake and ran towards him, and pulled the cell opened.

Immediately I stepped into the cell and with trembling hands, I reached out to pull him close with a desperate need, my face burying Into his chest as I sobbed loudly. “I’m so sorry!
