10. Wretched Event

Nandini got up with the loud buzz of her alarm clock. She groaned with the sound. She tapped her hand on the bedside table to find the clock but she couldn’t find it with her eyes closed. Being frustrated, she had to open her eyes and she spotted the clock lying on the floor. She picked it up and found the time to be 6.15am.

‘Tomorrow be ready at 7am. Sharp.’

The words of Mr. Johnson from last night rang in her ears. “Fuck! I’m late. I don’t wanna lose my job on the first day itself.” She got up with a jerk and ran inside the washroom.

Hurriedly taking a shower, she picked one of the dresses which was placed for her. Applying after a little make up, she went down to the dining room where Merry was laying the table. Nandini looked at the time and it was still 2 minutes left to be 7. She sighed in relief seeing that.

“Good morning, Merry.” I was almost huffing as I ran to the hall, not wishing to be late.

“Good morning, Nandini. You’re on time. Mr. Johnson will be here any moment.”
