Prologue

PROLOGUE

Diane’s pov

“I love you…” he confessed, our noses grazed and our eyes met in a deep stare as he finished with one last thrust and guttural groan, thus spilling in me.

A moan slipped through me, as I climaxed at the same moment as him, clinging to the man I love as we reached our high together.

He captured my lips in a gentle kiss again, “I love you so much Diane. I don't think I can live without you.” 

My heart warmed as I kissed him back with the same fervour. “I love you more Axel..” 

I stared into his crystal blue eyes, eyes that were my home, and I couldn't help the smile that spread through my face at his gorgeous face, looming over mine.

Axel was my everything.

The past year with him, the man I loved had been beautiful. 

I was Diane, Alpha female of pack Fidelis, and he was Alpha Axel, son of great Alpha Jackson and heir to the throne of the galaxy pack.

As Alphas, from families that held a history of blood feud, our union was forbidden because of our packs disputes, but our love was stronger….

Strong enough to make us both give up our responsibilities, and title, and elope, just to be with each other.

He gave up his fated mate just to be with me.

I, on my part have not met my fated mate yet, but I do know I will still choose Axel over him.

And in the past year of being together in this lovely condo, somewhere in the woods, alot had happened for us.

I got pregnant for him, and now our week old baby was sleeping in the cot next to us, while he made sweet love to me.

He adored my body with kisses, and I let him, before he eventually pressed a kiss to my temple, “I’ll always love you, my heart is only for you, Diane, no other woman can come close…” he murmured sweet nothings in my ear, as my head remained on his chest, just enjoying the moment.

I kissed his bare tanned chest and he just groaned my name in response, elliciting a happy chuckle from me.

“Go on, have a warm bath love..” he eventually said, after we reeled from the aftermath of our steamy sex.

“I’ll watch our baby..”

I nodded, to the man I trust with all my heart, as I got up from the bed, and went to the bathroom.

As the cold shower hit my dark brown curls, and cascaded down my feminine figure, I couldn’t help but remember when he entered my life, 

From meeting him at an official event, to him taking a liking to me. He chased me for a whole seven months, and constantly had to prove his love to me before I gave in, and that was the best decision I'd ever made.

Our families denied our union, but Axel held my hand and claimed me as his in front of the entire Alpha assembly, after which he rejected his fated mate, and gave up his birthright as next alpha, just to be with me, and I did same.

In the end, we chose each other over family….

And now, we had a beautiful family of our own, with our son, Saviour….

I finished my beauty bath, and when I came out, I gasped as my eyes roamed the bed I left him in.

He was nowhere to be seen.

Panic rose in me. He never told me he was going anywhere…

My eyes traveled to the baby cot, and I was shocked to see it was empty, and dangling.

My baby was nowhere to be seen, along with Axel….

Fear gripped me, as I called out to him continuously, and searched the room.

My heart pounded as I opened every door and found no one….

Where could he have gone to?

Suddenly, different sounds fell on my ear.

Sound of cars, men…

I threw on a dress and scurried outside in hopes to find Axel, but all I saw were unfamiliar faces, surrounding our condo, in black suits, in the dark of the night, giving off a threatening aura.

My heart pounded, but a relieved sigh escaped me, as I found Axel standing right there, in front of me.

Right in front of the people, just cradling our baby, like no one else was there…

He was all dressed up in a suit, as he had his back to me.

I breathed out in relief, as I realized he was still here, safe too….

Even though I was confused on who these people were, I took a step towards him.

“Axel, you are here with our baby” I breathed out. “Why didn't you tell me before stepping out?” I grabbed his arm as I glanced around warily once again, “and who are these people?”

In the next second, a black SUV arrived.

Out of it came the very man, I dreaded with everything in me.

The last time I saw him was a year ago at the alpha Assembly….

Alpha Jackson stepped down, wearing a malicious smirk on his face, as we locked eyes.

My heart pounded in my chest as my hold on Axel’s arm tightened. 

“Axel, What is your father doing here?”I gulped fearfully, but he surprised me with a smirk.

“Diane…”

“Yes Axel?” I replied as my attention remained on the soldiers surrounding us. 

They looked like pack warriors, but I couldn't conclude yet..

“Games do come to an end, don't they?” 

I frowned….

“W..what do you mean?” my heart pounded in my chest.

But then, everything happened like a blur….

How he let go of my hand, and walked to Alpha Jackson.

Fear gripped me as I saw him embrace the same father he had severed ties with, for me.

“Father…”

He placed a kiss on his hand in respect, before proceeding to hand him our baby…

“Axel, what are you doing?” I screamed at him.

It was like I was non-existent, as I watched them.

Alpha Jackson had a cruel smile as he accepted my baby from Axel and watched Saviour with a contempt smirk.

I ran forward, but was stopped by two guards who held me back….

He placed a kiss on my baby's forehead as well.

“Welcome home,” 

“Our heir…” he chuckled darkly.

“Axel. What is happening? Why is Alpha Jackson holding our baby?” I screamed at him, as I struggled against the soldiers holding me.

Axel turned to me, and in that moment he was almost unrecognizable. His eyes had taken the same cruelty as Alpha Jackson’s, 

“Our?” That was the first time he spoke, in a malicious voice, sending chills down my body.

“You mean my baby?” 

“W..What? We made Saviour…” fear became a tangible force, gripping me at his words.

He chuckled, a dark chuckle that unnerved me.

“I was using you all this time , it's high time you know…”  He admitted,causing a cold chill to spread through my nerves.

“You thought I loved you? That I chased you because I loved you?” He laughed like it was the most ridiculous thing in the world, and the men around hollered in mock laughter at me.

It felt like the world was spinning around me, as I listened on to what he had to say,

“Everything was planned, Diane. How I'd appear at an event you were, how I'd woo you into believing I love you, and I choose you over Sofia. It worked so well, you fell for it…”

With every cruel word that left his lips, my fragile heart broke into shambles, piece by piece……

“Now the game is over and I have emerged victorious, while you, you are left with nothing, dear Diane.” he tsked in mockery as he held a rigid stance.

He wore a cruel snarl as he continued, “For years, I've waited, waited for the chance to even the scores. To grovel in the pain of those who robbed joy from my beloved aunt Irene. Your pack stole her joy and now I will do the same to you…”

“Axel…” I gasped as tears cracked through my resolve, I shook my head, no, this can not be the man I loved…..

“Good job son…” Alpha Jackson grinned with spite, and turned to me, still cradling my baby.

“Today history is repeating itself, and it is before your very own eyes, that we'll take your son away from you.” He added with a hateful sneer.

“Axel….” I gasped, as a tear ran down my cheeks.

But he only regarded me with scorn as he stood confidently like a proud accomplished son beside his father.

I shook my head.

He was no more my Axel…

This man before me was not the same man, who would kiss me to sleep every night and unfailingly profess his love to me everyday.

Instead, he was a mirror of the devil, an incarnate of cruel Alpha Jackson standing before me.

The SUV’s door opened once again, making my head snap to its direction and out stepped a woman I recognized to be Sofia.

I saw the same Sofia he claimed to have rejected, wearing a malicious smirk as she walked towards Father and Son.

“Sofia….” he enveloped her in a hug that shattered my heart.

“I've been waiting for this day my love….” she whispered, staring into his eyes.

My heart dropped at the comment…..

I watched him exchange a kiss with her….

A kiss that broke me…

Then he handed her my son…

My heart broke as Sofia placed a peck on my son's forehead.

“No….” I screamed with all of my might….

I was completely powerless and so alone….

Yet, I tried to lounge at them…

I screamed and cried to no ears, as my baby disappeared from my sight, with Sofia into the car.

He smirked, “Goodbye Diane, it was fun while it lasted…” 

After that, before my very eyes, he pranced towards the car, accompanied by his father and they drove off….

“No..” I screamed again with all my strength, as I struggled, willing to go after my baby….

The soldiers let go of me, shifting into their wolves, and taking off behind the suv, as it drove farther away from me, but I took off after them..

Running…just running…

To get to my baby….

Barefoot, I chased the car through the wet sand, past the bushes, yet they seemed to go faster…

Anna…..

I tried summoning my wolf.

I had a weak wolf but at that moment, I was hoping she would help me…..

Yet, I couldn't transform…

The storm started yet I kept running to my baby through the rain…..

The wolves following behind the suv, stopped to bare their teeth at me, and shoo me away,and I staggered backwards, nearly tripping, and at the same time, broken glass pierced through my feet, sending a stinging pain through me and coursing a painful scream out of me.

“Saviour……give me back Saviour please…” I cried at the top of my lungs, as my knees buckled under me, as I could no longer run…

I fell, and the rain splattering over me, mixed with my tears, as my heart hurt so much…

My baby…

They had taken him away from me….

Axel had betrayed me, and taken my joy away

He was lying to me, all this while…

He used me….

Lifelessly, I walked back to the condo as the harsh reality of what had taken place hit me.

“Saviour, my baby…” I gasped as tears started once again.

The pain was all too much and I was left all alone to bear it, that is until I heard the bushes rustle, as voices suddenly filled the silence again, 

“Axel, give Diane back to us…”

I paused in my crying, my heart skipped a beat as I realized that voice belonged to my brother, David..…..

A brother from a family I had abandoned, to go with Axel….

The Axel that betrayed me….

The tears kept falling at the reality of his betrayal.

They had been searching for us since the elopement but now, I'd been found. 

But it was too late…..

“Diane, are you in there? Diane, I want you to know, I'm not leaving this place without you…” his voice continued, and all I did was sob more….

I wish he had come earlier, now it was too late.

I wish I had listened to mum and everyone telling me to break up with Axel back then….

“Warriors…search the condo…” was the last order I heard from him, as multiple footsteps filled the surrounding area.

David found me sitting on the sand, overlooking the lake, behind the condo, and out of shock, he scurried to me, and crouched to my level, enveloping me in a squeezing hug, even as his eyes searched my surroundings for any other presence.

“Diane, what happened? Why are you crying?”

He grabbed my jaw as his eyes fiercely searched mine for an answer, “And where is Axel…..”

I continued staring into nothing, “He left…..”

“Who?” 

The tears kick-started again, as I replied, “Axel and his pack. He was lying to me all along, using me and now, they have taken my baby away from me and left me all alone…”

“What?” 

I shook my head slowly, “I have nothing now. The pain all of it is too much,

I had disgraced my pack, and shame consumed me.

Suddenly I felt like ending my life.

“I want to die…” I gasped 

“Diane..” he tried to stop me, but I freed myself from his hold, and ran in the direction of the lake.

I plunged myself into the deep water, willing to drown in the depth of my sorrows.

I closed my eyes, ready to surrender to the cold claws of death, as I felt myself sinking deeper into the abyss of the dark waters.

My happiness was gone, I had no zeal to live anymore…

It was over….

My life had been single handedly ruined by Axel…

The last thing I felt was a firm hand around my waist, pulling me against a hard chest and swimming away with me……

My eyes remained shut as a sad smile spread through my face, and tears spilled at the contact.  

I must have died already….

And maybe just maybe, it was the king of death, welcoming me into their realm.

All I can say now is goodbye to life.

Before I lost consciousness all together , only one last thought blazed through my heart.

I wish I never met Axel….
