Chapter Nine

After a few days of being with Diablo at his house, he stresses to everybody, “I will admit that we are safe here, but it’s not doing any good. We need back up, we need an army, we need to be better prepared.”

Diablo agrees, “You’re right, but we need wolves, we don't need witches.”

Rora debates, “I agreed that we need wolves, but we also need witches, too”

Theo suggests, “ What if we go to my old clan and see if they’ll help us?”

Luna is confused, “I thought you killed all of them?”

Theo is slightly amused, “No, that was not my clan. There was a she wolf, and she was in love with me, and she got jealous, because she thought that her and I should have been married, because neither of us had found our mates.”

Diablo laughs, “You sly dog!”

They all start to laugh.

Rora does her little chants and items start to pack themselves.

Diablo seems sad, “You’re leaving?”

Luna encourages, “You can come with us?”

Theo doesn’t look like he agrees but Diablo asks, “Really?”

Luna blushes and runs her hand on his, “Of course, who's going to protect me from all those big bad wolves.”

Theo is shocked. Rora and Jolene are trying not to laugh as they pull Theo out of the room by his arms. They both giggle and gossip. Theo is trying to keep up as they pull him out of the room, to give Luna and Diablo some privacy.

Theo is getting confused, “What just happened?”

Rora lays her head on his shoulder, “She’s finally going to make a move!”

Theo repeats, “Make a move?”

Rora nods, “She’s flirting with him!”

He questions, “What will she do when he meets his soulmate?”

Rora shrugs, “At her age, she might not be around when that happens!”

Jolene gasps, “That’s not even funny! Could you imagine, if he chose his mate over her? It would be the second time a man that she loved chose another over her!”

Theo watches Jolene for a moment, “So you don’t think that it would be worth it?

Jolene, “What would be worth it?”

He clarifies, “You don’t think having her love for a moment would be worth it?”

Jolene shrugs, “ I don’t think it would be worth it. If he needs his and then wants nothing to do with her and then she’s left lonely and sad all over again. Is it worth it?”

Rora suggests, “Or they end up like that. I told you about three or four of them and they all just learned to love each other!”

Jolene shakes her head, “I wouldn’t want to share my guy, I’d want it to just be us.”

Theo is curious, “You’d save yourself for your mate?”

She nods and he asks, “Won’t you get lonely?”

She shrugs, “It’s better than taking the chance of causing someone to lose out on their love.”

Rora brushes her hand across his shoulder and down his arm, “I think a little fun won’t hurt..”

He blushes and chokes on his words, “I don’t know if that would be a good idea..”

She pulls herself into him and whispers in his ear, “I’ve only for far too long.”

His eyes searched the room for Jolene, but she’s nowhere to be seen. His wolf wants him to chase after her, but he has been lonely for so long. Rora is kissing him and saying all the right things and he just doesn’t have the strength to fight it.

*Meanwhile with Jolene*

Jolene, can’t believe what she just saw. Her wolf is howling and sobbing on the inside. She runs and runs and runs, and then something unexpected happens. She starts to transform.

She’s screaming to her wolf, “What is happening?”

Her wolf, “We are transforming!”

Jolene panicked, “It’s too early for that. We’re not supposed to transform until the full moon.”

By now it’s too late, she’s already in wolf form. Her wolf howls and runs, and runs.

She asks, “Where are we going?”

Her wolf cries out, “I need to get away from the pain!”

Her wolf yelps in pain as another werewolf attacks her and growls, “You're in my territory!”

Her wolf explains, “I'm sorry, I'm not even sure where I am.”

Other wolves surround them. Someone to tear her apart, and others want to give her a chance. They argue that maybe she’s a mate to someone in their village. After a long discussion, they decide to let her come into their village.

She returns into her human form and she walks around the village. She prays to Apollo, and as she feels the heat in her hair she knows that she is safe. She is welcomed in with open arms and enjoys hearing the stories that they tell.

She listens to them, tell her the wonderful stories of Diablo. They aren’t referring to her brother, they are referring to her father. She knows that she should be worried, but she feels safe here. It’s nice to hear good things about her birth father for once. It gives her hope that’s not as horrible as everyone else seems to think.

When the nighttime comes, Jolene goes to sleep. She wakes up too. Someone grabbed her. It’s a man who looks like an older version of Diablo Junior. He said to her and he started to howl.

This is when Jolene‘s wolf tells her, “This is father.”

The man growls, “At Last I have found you!”

He looks round, and then with mean eyes asks her, “Where is she?”

Jolene is confused, “Where is who?”

He slaps, “Your mother!”

He picks her up and slams her into the wall, calling her a liar. He demands that the others carry her back to the palace to interrogate her. Tears are all on her eyes because she realizes that he is evil. He doesn’t want her. he wants her mother.

Fear consumes her, and she starts to pray for the Goddesses to help her get out of her predicament.
