The rest of the afternoon they spent in tense silence. Their conversation during the day produced nothing but irritation in Calvin and determination in Hazel. She wouldn't help the man in the slightest if it meant putting Emily in danger. Of course she wouldn't trade Emily's safety for the life of a stranger who suddenly wreaks havoc on her peaceful life and then suddenly pushes her into the abyss of trouble. Oh, that really sucks. But Calvin is really annoying. The silence he showed made her afraid just to get out of the room she shared with Emily.
The girl whined all afternoon after waking up from her nap. She became more energetic and she used all her strength to whine at her in frustration. Emily kept whining at her wanting to go outside and find the treasure. While outside she could hear the sound of Calvin's footsteps and the activities Calvin was doing outside to show her that he was outside and that she had to stay in the room with Emily.
