The camp subordinates brought lunch to the two men which was the usual stale bread and some scanty-looking vegetables. They ordered them to go and work in the laboratory after they finished their lunch.

This meal was a regular meal that they had become used to eating and each time they ate a meal at the camp, they were always skeptical hoping there’s no poison in it.
