Chapter 18

Izak came by my room later that day, he offered me a drawn smile as he entered the space. Tamsyn, Adeline, and Nisha cleared out in a flurry of giggles and sugary promises to be back to check on me later. I waved as they left, my body had yet to recover, and my energy was low. Izak ran his hand through his hair in a way that reminded me of Darrien. My heart ached at the gesture and the memories that sprung forth. I carefully tucked them away as Izak stood just inside the doorway.

“It’s good to see you awake,” he commented as he shoved his hands into his pockets. He leaned against the doorframe as if to keep the exit available.

“Thank you,” I replied. Though I was wary of his presence I smiled at the wolf. I wasn’t sure what Izak wanted, but the last time I’d seen him I had ended up unconscious for two days and awoke to an IV in my hand.

“Well, uh, that is,” he began, unable to hold my gaze. “I wanted to ask if you’d forgive me for taking you to Lou, I mean, Alpha Lucas.”
