Monday came quickly, and with it, a flurry of nerves as Ellie thought about facing Jake. She knew she had done nothing wrong, but by planning a date with Stefano, she somehow felt like she had betrayed him. Every time she thought of her date with Stefano, her stomach did cartwheels and her face sported a small, pleased smile. She woke up early Monday morning, she was up and dressed by 6 am, bouncing around her room getting her books and things in order for the week.
She managed to waste about an hour before she decided 7 am was late enough to wait before waking up Sam. She peeked her head out and noticed that the light in Meredith's room was on, which meant she was up for the day. If she woke Sam up now, they could hit breakfast by 7:45 which meant she would have enough time to get a coffee and sneak out to her first class without seeing Jake.
'As if. You secretly want to run into him, admit it,' the voice inside her head sneered.
'NO!'

"Jake," Ellie said softly, her voice shaking as she looked into his eyes. Her heart was pounding, her stomach lurching into knots but she stared calmly at the man in her doorway, willing her body to remain calm and her voice to remain steady. Jake leaned against the doorway to her room as he watched her, his eyes shooting flames. "Care to let me in?" Jake asked as he gestured inside her room. "I don't think that's a good idea," Ellie replied, her breathing getting shallow. Her stomach was in knots. Every time he was near butterflies took over and she could hardly breathe, she could hardly think straight. "I heard some interesting news just now. You're going on a date with Stefano this Saturday?" Jake asked her, his eyebrows raised, his voice accusing. "Yes, I am," Ellie replied, willing her body to listen and not give her away. "Do you think that's a good idea?" Jake asked. "Obviously, or I wouldn't have said yes." Ellie
Ellie, Sam, and Meredith sat in a booth at Fiorelli's. Sam and Meredith were on one side, Ellie sitting opposite. "So, wanna talk about it some more?" Sam asked Ellie, a question in her eyes. Ellie shook her head. "No, there's nothing else to talk about." She gave a deep sigh. "We're going to try being friends. That's the best I can hope for." Ellie heard her subconscious growl at her, she cringed as she realized she'd resorted to talking to herself again. "The good news is I haven't had a panic attack in a while. My body must have realized it couldn't keep shutting down every time life got hard. Probably because life's been nothing but hard since I got here." Ellie added. She looked over at Meredith, remembering something Meredith had said earlier. "Sorry, Mere, I've been really selfish recently. How are you? You mentioned you knew who your mate was, but you didn't say anything about him. Is he here on campus? When's your birthd
Ellie slept restlessly that night. She couldn't stop thinking about the fact the mate bond with Jake was going to get stronger and stronger until they turned 17 which is when they were supposed to claim each other. Sam and Meredith had sat with Ellie in the common area, explaining more about mate bonds once Stacy had left. On your 17th birthday, once you find your mate, you bite them to mark them as your own. The law of werewolves states you can only mark a mate that is also over 17, but since Ellie's birthday happened on the same day as Jake's they would have the same desire at the same time. Ellie woke Tuesday morning in a fog. She made her way toward the hall for breakfast, her bag slung over her shoulder. She saw Sam and Meredith and dropped her bag next to a chair before getting a cup of coffee. She set the coffee cup on the table and sat, staring into the dark depths of the liquid. She loved coffee. The bitter taste of the roasted bean matched her mood this morning as
Ellie finally made it through her torturous week. Saturday came and with it the promise of a reprieve from campus and magical beings. She would be going to the bonfire. Sam and Meredith, too. She thought Firash and Jake might be coming but she hadn't allowed herself time alone with Jake this week so she didn't know what he was planning to do today. The group had been strangely quiet about the bonfire since the Alpha's visit. Ellie assumed they would remember, but she was planning to go regardless.Ellie pulled on a jacket to cover her shirt and went to knock on Sam's door. She could hear Meredith talking inside the room."Do you think he is going to be able to keep his wolf in check, seeing her with Stefano?" Sam's voice said softly."He's going to have to. He can't be with her, it's not fair of him to tell her to wait forever while they figure this out." Meredith replied reasonably."I know, it sucks so much. How could Eloise do that? She must not
Ellie froze in fear, holding onto Stefano's hand tightly, watching the eyes of the wolves as they slowly walked toward them. "Do you think they're friendly?" Ellie asked Stefano in a whisper. "No. No, I don't," Stefano said frantically as the wolves jumped toward them. Stefano grabbed Ellie's hand and pulled her behind him. He took a fighting stance, grabbing a stick from the ground, something to use to fight against the wolves. The first wolf jumped toward Stefano and Ellie and Stefano swung at the wolf with the stick like a bat, making contact with one of his back legs. Ellie saw the leg shatter and the wolf went down with a crash. She quietly marvelled at how strong Stefano had to be in order to shatter his leg so easily. A large, grey wolf jumped from behind Stefano toward the two attacking wolves. He snarled, ready to attack the second wolf jumping toward them. Ellie realized with a start that it was Thatcher. Her guard was here, ready to protect. Ellie
Ellie's head was pounding, she wasn't able to focus on anything other than the sharp stabbing pain in the back of her head. She groaned and rolled on her side, noticing that her hands were tied and her eyes blindfolded. She couldn't tell where she was but she was lying on a hard surface, her hands secured behind her back. "Easy, there," a voice said next to her. She felt a hand come up to her shoulder and help ease her into a sitting position. "You took a nasty fall to the head. You probably have a concussion." "Where am I? Who are you?" Ellie asked, panic starting to overwhelm her as she realized she had been kidnapped. "You are with us rebels. We really aren't a terrible lot, we just have different views of the world than you do. And my name is not important," the voice replied. "Ok, that's really unhelpful," Ellie said, her mind racing as she remembered what happened before she blacked out. The man crouched down on the ground next to
'This is really not good,' Ellie thought to herself.'What?! What's not good?' the voice asked inside her head.'Oh shit, maybe I should hide!' Ellie thought.Ellie looked around, ignoring the inner monologue spewing a tirade of curses as she tried to figure out what to do. Almost all of the rebels had been ruthlessly killed in the yard beyond. She wasn't sure she wanted to find out if these wolves were friendly or not. There was nowhere to hide, so Ellie grabbed the comforter and crouched in the closet, the comforter bunched over her in a crumpled mess, hoping she would be mistaken for a pile of laundry if anyone opened the door.It took more than twenty minutes but someone did come looking in her room. Her door opened and a voice yelled, "Clear." before moving on to the next. She stayed under the comforter, curled into a tiny ball, as small as she could make herself, while she heard the wolves search the rest of the house. Ell
Ellie was nestled in between two warm bodies and once she had eaten her burger her eyes felt heavy. She drifted to sleep, her head dropping onto Stefano's shoulder. He reached around her and pulled her into his arms, nestling her against his chest protectively. He watched her sleep, her features soft in the setting sun. The day had passed and Sunday was coming to a close. He had planned a date for her today, but it would have to wait for another day. He was just glad she was back, safe, with them.Thatcher looked at him, confusion clouding his eyes, "You know she has a mate, right?"Stefano nodded, "It's Jake, I know.""So, what's going on between you and her?" Thatcher asked kindly."Jake's not free to be with her. He's intended to another. If he can't have her, why shouldn't I?" Stefano asked honestly."You're not just a regular human, are you?" Thatcher asked as he watched Stefano carefully.Stefano shook his head no."Want t
