[1.2] Makayla-Invited!

Breathing out I straightened my back, folding my onsie and placing it neatly on bed. Retrieving my phone instead, I swiped through my contacts, hands still shaking from the excitement. “Pick up, pick up, pick up” I muttered as it buzzed.

“Makayla are you done?!” Britney yelled from somewhere I couldn’t see, hearing her footsteps head towards the door of my room. I immediately rushed into the bathroom, locking the door behind me, taking a seat on the closed toilet, “Yeah! I’m in the bathroom, give me a sec!” I yelled back.

I glanced at my phone, relieved when it flashed and a face popped up, “Ted!” I whispered lowly as he sent me his wide grin. His green eyes lit up like they always did when he was all up in my face, taking all my time.

He took off his large headsets, placing his controller down, running a hand through his short curled brown hair, eyebrows arching, “are you in the toilet?”

“That’s the first thing you noticed?” I asked watching him smirk, “Why am I not surprised? It’s closed, if that concerns you,” I whispered harshly.

“Why you are whispering-“he stopped, squinting, “wait, is that makeup?’ he asked moving closer to the positioned phone so I could barely see the rest of his face.

I froze, eyes widening, “m-maybe?”

He chuckled, “yeah,” he dragged, “and you need more practice,” he finished reaching over and putting some potato chips in his mouth, proceeding to crunch away.

“Shut up,” I snapped watching him chuckle again. He suddenly froze, raising an eyebrow in disbelief, “don’t tell me…” he trailed off staring at me, wide eyed.

I grinned nodding.

“She said yes?!” he yelled pushing his bag of chips to the floor, “dang it!”

I covered the phone, freezing as I heard my sisters footsteps pass by. I breathed out when I was in the clear looking down at him, “shhhhhhhh” I hushed, “why are you so damn loud?!” I whisper yelled.

He was picking up the chips, looking at them sorrowfully like he had just lost a child in a park.

“You know there’s no saving those chips,” I stated plainly.

He sent me a scowl, as I continued, enjoying his supposed torment, “yep, that’s chip murder, they ought a take you to chip jail. Just let it go, walk away.” I eased.

He grinned, picking a chip as I gasped, “don’t you dare!”

I watched as he plopped it into his mouth, munching away. I gagged as I watched him, “you’re disgusting, you know that?”

“Says the girl that picked up her hot dog when it fell,” he raised an eyebrow, “in the dog park.”

“Five second rule plus, we split it the middle and you promised no- as I recall we made an oath never to speak of it again” I rambled, sucking in a breath, hand over my aching heart “oh, the betrayal,” I used my theatrics.

“You are so dramatic,” he huffed with a slight eye roll.

“And clearly you can’t be trusted.”

“Why do you always have to exaggerate? I didn’t even eat the sausage. You just gave me the bun,” he scoffed.

“Doesn’t matter, you freaking owe me 20 bucks,” I smirked.

“Damn,” he cursed, searching his pants pocket.

“Not now dumbasss!” I sighed, glancing at the shut door again, “I called so you could walk me through,” I hinted.

“Oh yeah, alright,” he replied sitting up, “you got the camera right?”

I glanced over at the bag on the floor, pulling out the camera, “yep, check.”

“Make sure it has enough space, carry the tripod as well for steady shots,” he added, “you got to take the hell out of that party,” he concluded, “and remember stable shots.” He annunciated stable like he was talking to a preschooler.

“I know, I know. It’s not my first rodeo,” I grumbled, slipping the camera back in. It was a heavy piece of equipment.

There was a pause and I looked up at the screen, only to find him giving me the look.  I groaned, rolling my eyes, “stable shots, I got it! I’ve been practicing,” I replied showing him my hands for some reason.

“Uh huh, there’s a reason why Miss Molly always pairs us together. She likes me taking the shots,” he urged folding his arms. His very apparent muscles bulging out of his shirt, “eyes up here princess.”

I rolled my eyes, “Aunt just wants to make sure you have a baby sitter at all times,” I smirked. That should ruffle up his feathers, Mr. I can do whatever I want.

“Really? I’ll have you know I’m the most trustworthy-“

“Ted focus! I don’t have time for your, ‘I’m Mr. Perfect’ speeches!” I whisper yelled, I glanced up at the door again, before taking a look at him. “Trivia now, Go!” I demanded.

He sighed, rolling his chair to the side then coming back into view, holding some cards, “angles?”

I breathed out steadying my mind, “venue shots, outside shots, entrance shots, head shots, décor, prestigious guests, celebrities, influencers, hosts uh...”

“Drama,” he added. I shut my eyes. Dang it, the most important and I almost forgot.

He flipped to the second card, “main celebrities?”

“Robin Ryder. Manager, billionaire, business man. Wife died 3 years ago. 6 years ago he adopted two gold mines, 2 boys, Chris and Justin Star Ryder. Chris Ryder, movie star, 180 million followers on I*******m, men’s activists, coca cola ambassador, and…Britney’s boyfriend.”

“Still find that hard to believe sometimes,” Ted mumbled, “and Justin star?” he asked.

“Douche bag, douche bag, douche bag and,” I trailed off, “douche bag.”

He chuckled at my answer, “c’mon, its trivia.”

I sighed, “Pop star, 200 million followers, I*******m that is, reportedly single, alcoholic, womanizer, current song is number one on the billboards top 20 and apparently still Americas obsession,” I trailed off.

He put the cards down, pulling the chair closer to me with a nod,“you’re ready,” he grinned. I smiled back, taking a deep breath in.

“MAKAYLA!” Britney yelled.

“And just in time,” I whispered back, before standing up, “I’M COMING!” I yelled, waving Ted goodbye.

Opening the door I almost fell back at the sight of Britney standing a hairs breathe away from me. I side stepped her, “wow, talk about personal space.”

“What where you doing in there? It’s been an hour since you said you were going to change,” she scolded.

“Gees, I don’t know. What do people do in the bathroom?” I asked pulling up the strap of my bag.

She glanced at my hand, “with Ted?”

I glanced down at my phone, teds face still showing through, “you haven’t hanged up yet?” I hissed.

“You called so you cut it,” he huffed, “Hi Britney, you look good. Make ups on point,” he smirked. I rolled my eyes at his comment, opting to hang up. “Thank you Ted!” Britney managed to squeeze in before I cut the call.

“I hope he’s not coming with us,” she glared, folding her arms.

“No worries there muffin,” I cooed lifting up my camera bag, “I got it covered.”

She nodded, trailing down my figure, eyes widening, “That’s what you’re wearing!”

I glanced down at the large fuzzy shirt I was wearing matched with dark leggings and ankle boots, “what’s wrong with this?”

“Really Makayla?!”

“What?!”

“You look like a Hobo!” she huffed staring at me in horror.

“This is okay Brit, for goodness sakes stop over reacting,” I eased moving toward the mirror.

“No this,” she began looming over me as I watched her reflection, “is exactly why you’re still single.”

“I’m single because I choose to be,” I clarified.

“you’re lucky you’re pretty, “ she retorted, folding her arms, “I’m pretty sure it was those big brown puppy eyes and luscious lips Ted fell for in high school, because that’s the only way you could have caught the hottest guy in school.”

“I did not catch anybody!” I replied, turning to face her. I had heard that sentence one million times too much.

“He’s been asking you out since the very first day he laid eyes on you. That was what… 8 years ago?”

“Ted’s a good friend,” I countered.

“Yeah, because hot guys with full ride football scholarships and rich parents choose to take part-time jobs at local gossip firms,” Britney bit back, giving me a ‘cut the bullshit’ look.

Words never failed me before but they failed me now. I opened my mouth and closed it, opening it up again only for it to slam back shut, “okay,” I finally admitted,” maybe he has a little crush, but once he sees he can do better he’ll move on,” I explained, “and I’ve been more than clear with him.”

“True, but it’s been eight years.”

“Why are we talking about Ted?! Look do you really want me to change? You know rock some sexy heels, barely covering my bottom type dress,” I paused turning to face her, “while I moved around with a camera?” I asked, lifting the camera bag, “how many eyes would I attract now tell me? Security would be on me before I can even say, flash!”

She folded her arms, studying me for a second as if thinking it over. She was about to say something when her phone buzzed. Taking it out, her eyes suddenly lit up like the northern lights whilst she was reading the text. It was probably Chris then.

Barf.

She looked back at me, fluffing my hair quickly, “you’ve convinced me,” she squealed, “Chris just texted the venue, let’s go!” she grabbed my arm. I rolled my eyes, holding my bag tighter as she pulled me along, clearly with the primary goal of amputating my arm.

We zoomed down the stairs, my favorite stair creaking beneath our weight. As we neared the living room, voices from the TV filled our ears. I didn’t have to guess which show Aunt Molly was watching.

Greys anatomy. Show had been running like forever and would continue soon after I was dead.

“Mom we’re leaving!” Britney yelled as we passed through the living room headed toward the door. She turned from the couch eyes, widening when she saw Britney, “that’s what you’re wearing?”

“Mom there’s no time!” Britney screeched moving toward the door still dragging me behind her, “trust me Aunt, I already said something,” I huffed.

“Dang it, car keys!” Britney yelled, suddenly doing a 180, disappearing into the kitchen. Aunt Molly took this time to whisper lowly, “you’re going too?”

A large grin made its way to my face, nodding as I tightened my hold on my bag strap.

“Yes!” she whisper squealed.  She knew exactly what this meant for me, “Remember sweetheart, clear shots,” she quickly reminded in a low voice, glancing at the kitchen entrance, “be swift, careful and precise.”

I nodded, “I know, I know. I won’t blow this.” I reassured her.

We both squealed again in excitement, “it’s going to be front page, I can feel it. And you’re going to be top three, “She added, her eyes bouncing with untold joy.

“I have to be. No other firm knows where the launch will be held,” I replied.

She grinned, hands clasped together, brown eyes swelling with pride. Her almond hair pulled back in her usual pony tail.  Then her eyebrows suddenly furrowed, “you’re wearing that?”

My shoulders sagged at the weight of that question, dropping from cloud nine, “Aunt Molly…” I whined.

“Sweetie, there’s going to be a handful of celebrities there. High class people, millionaires and billionaires! Who knows? You might even find the one,” she whispered the one lower, “I mean since you keep rejecting Ted...”

“Ted again?” I groaned.

“Come on, put on a dress or-“

“I’ve got it!” Britney yelled rushing in, she grabbed my arm again blowing her Mom a kiss, “Let’s go, we’re going to be late!”

Aunt Molly’s eyes narrowed at my attire but I sent her a smile, “its camouflage,” I whisper explained, blowing her a kiss of my own, before disappearing out the door.

To say I was shoved into the car was an understatement, it felt more like a tackle. “Easy!” I yelped rubbing my arm as she graciously shut my door for me, excuse me, slammed it shut. She slipped into her own seat after a sprint around the car. Who knows how she managed to do that with six inch red bottoms.

I could never.

I loved my boots just the way they were.

The drive started off nicely as we followed Chris location, Siri’s voice being of major help as we swerved lanes. “I spot prince charming,” I hummed tapping the arm of the chair, facing out the car window.  Chris Ryder’s poster for his new movie, Silver Sworn was literally everywhere, only switching simultaneously with Justin Star Ryder’s top charting single. He was posed in his old English assassin type attire holding the sandix, the supposed thing he had to guard through the whole movie. His hair was dyed a glimmering silver, bringing out his natural blue eyes.

Britney scoffed, turning left per siri’s instruction, “mm,” she hummed.

I turned to face her, surprised at her reaction, “you guys did keep in touch during the shooting right? I know he was in England for five months.”

“Of course!” She all but snapped.

“Okay miss feisty just asking here, don’t run down at pedestrian at my folly,” I dragged.

There was a slight pause, when only the sound of our lingering breaths could be heard before I heard her sigh, “Sorry, “she apologized. “He called me every day it’s just...” she trailed off.

“It’s just what? You know I’ll kick his ass again if I have to,” I reassured, focusing on her every action. Chris would never know what was coming.

She chuckled, yet I noticed her tightened hold on the steering wheel, “it’s been two weeks since he came back but, I haven’t seen him yet.”

My eyes widened at this news, “you mean like face to face?”

“Yeah,” she breathed out, “He’s been busy, you know?”

I frowned shifting my whole body to face hers, “no I don’t know.”

She glanced at me, shoulders falling, “The movie broke the box office so its interview after interview. Believe me, we’ve both tried to make time, but between his schedule and My classes,” she breathed out trailing off stopping at a red light.

I rolled my eyes sighing, “You’re going to work it out. I know for a fact he’ll make it work no matter what. You bewitched that boy Brit, a blind man could see that.”

And it was true.

I remembered their break up like it had just happened yesterday. Boy looked like he would die if she ever really left him. If I caught the hottest guy in school, then Britney caught the literal prince charming.

“Chris is stupid because all boys are stupid but if there was one that was decently normal, it would be him,” I continued, speaking yet another truth. Honestly Chris was the one celebrity even I couldn’t find dirt on. You could genuinely see his purity just by looking into his stupid pretty blue eyes. Shocking I know for a 23 year old celebrity. I caught her watching me and she offered me a soft smile, “Thanks kay, I needed to hear that.”

Grinning, I rechecked my seat belt as the light turned green, “Good. Now would you please hit the gas? You drive like a grandma.”

I stared at the gate before me, feeling like I was standing in front of Buckingham palace, “the venue is at Justin Stars home?!” my mouth hang open as we drove toward the security by the gate.

“I guess so, I mean Chris said something about this venue being their last resort, but he didn’t say it was Justin’s house. Are your sure it is?” she asked.

“I assure you I know every a-list celebrity house in Beverly Hills Brit,” I scoffed as we pulled up to the security. By instinct, I made myself small, throwing the most innocent look I could master.

“Name?” the buff bold headed bodyguard asked, his Dark skin, shimmering in the street light that hang right above him.

“Britney and Mckayla Walters,” Britney squeaked, maybe even more intimidated by him than I was. Britney had never really adjusted to the high life that her boyfriend was living. In all honesty, she rarely attended large functions like the Grammy’s or the Oscars. Did she love attention? Yes, I mean that red dress spoke for itself, but not too much of it, especially by an audience as wide as the Grammy’s. However, being the girlfriend of one of the most searched celebrities in the world brought her just that. The Ryder’s were like the male Kardashians if you think about it.

The bodyguard glanced up at us, “You’re VIP,” He said, seemingly quite surprised. Britney was frozen wide eyed only uttering a very unconvincing hum.

I rolled my eyes sitting up, “hey buddy,” I called to him. His hard eyes flashed to me and I gulped, “s-sir, I’m guessing you’re new here and that is why don’t know you’re talking to Chris Ryder’s Girlfriend of three- excuse me four years. Of course she’s VIP,” I clarified matching his stare, somewhat.

Britney sent me a look but I ignored her.

It was kind of nice talking face to face with celebrity security without them shoving you out of the way with their huge muscles, which were probably meant for lifting weights and not bulldozing people.  He frowned and I offered him a cheesy smile. He took a step back from our car window, “Welcome to Mr. Robin Ryder’s Auto Biography Book Launch. Please proceed toward the Villa.”

Britney gulped offering him a shaky smile, “thank you,” she purred before driving in.

“Wasn’t he a darling?” I muttered.

She chuckled, pulling up toward the house.

My eyes marveled at the Monstrosity, looking like the freaking white house, without the stupid white minus the many stories, “remind me to marry a billionaire,” I mumbled as we parked between two large cars. Hammers.

I stared at our Toyota. Talk about feeling out of place.

Britney’s heels clicked beside me, “before we go in, I want you to walk me through it,” she began, stopping me from walking toward the villa.

“Really?” I huffed glancing over at the alluring lights of the villa, “C’mon Brit, we’ve already discussed this in the car! I can do what I’m told, I’m not a three year old!” I whined as we stood aimlessly in the driveway turned parking lot.

She folded her arms and I sighed staring down at the tar ground, releasing a low puff of air in defeat, “low profile and hidden shots, no up close and personal ones... Avoid taking shots of Chris, so yeah, basically the usual,” I finished, “can we go in now?” I huffed throwing my hands up, “I mean the parties already started and prince charming’s waiting,” I huffed.

After giving me a thorough check up with her scrutinizing gaze, her eyes travelled toward the villa behind me, relaxing her stance, “Alight, let’s go.”

“Finally!” I screeched, grabbing her arm. It was mine turn to do the dragging as we walked up to the door.
