Three

Doctor Frank welcomed the couple and their son. "Good morning Mr. Badmus", he exchanged a handshake with him.

"Good morning doc! How is the work going?" Mr. Badmus returned the greetings.

"My work, I'm always busy, I give glory to the creator." Madam, you look radiant this morning, he poked fun at madam Florence.

"Doc you can say that again", she blushed with her response. Her husband did not have time to compliment her on dressing, to him makeup is a waste of time. Whenever someone compliments Madam Florence, she always feels the movement of butterflies in her stomach.

"Cute baby, what's your name?" Dr. Frank was asking for Johnson's name. Johnson mumbled, he is still little, and his words are not too clear.

"Did you say your name is Thompson?" Dr. asked. The boy nodded no. Let me guess again "Samson?". The boy screamed "Johnson! Johnson!! Johnson!!!"

Sorry dear, I don't mean to get on your bad side, but I can't hear you correctly. The doctor said and gave Johnson a pack of candy to pacify him. Madam Florence helped to pronounce the name properly, 'his name is Johnson.'

"Johnson come here and give me a high five," Dr. Frank raises his right hand, waiting for the boy. Johnson got down from his mother's lap, walked over to the doctor's chair and they both exchanged a high five. The doctor lifted him up about three times before Johnson finally walked back to meet his mom.

"Doc! About Tonia the day we brought her here after you examined her, you said there's is something about her you need to tell her family member. On the phone yesterday you are saying she does not have any family. Tell us what it is, maybe we can pay for the treatment. She needs to live in good health, regardless if she has a family or not," Mr. Badmus said with his business-looking face.

"The doctor replied; it's not something too serious." He hung back a bit. Madam Florence has it on her face, the look of tell us what is wrong. He then continues, "Tonia is pregnant." Like a bomb, the doctor's words exploded and the atmosphere changed.

"Preg-nant! Madam Florence stressed the word with an exclamation. How come? She looks like a little girl to me."

Madam, she is a little girl, the doctor cleared madam Florence.

Mr. Badmus asked, "have you informed her about her pregnancy?"

Not yet Sir, with the look of things, I am convinced that she knew beforehand that she is with a baby in her stomach, Dr. Frank let out his observation.

"Doctor please, call the girl for me now! Madam Florence spoke in anger, She knew she was pregnant, oh my! That was the reason she wanted to tag us as murderers. She wants us to help her take her own life."

Dear, let's hear her first before we conclude, Mr. Badmus playing the middle man role between his wife and Tonia. He felt bad for such a young girl who claimed not to have a family to be pregnant. There must be something we need to know. She never looks like an uncultured girl to me.

The doctor sent the nurse to bring Tonia to his office.

Madam Florence was so vicious, all she thought was that Tonia schemed for a car to knock her down, and they happened to fall victim to her orchestration. She felt they should have abandoned her on the highway to die.

Tonia opened the doctor's office room, she appeared naive. She was not cognizant of the dialogue going on between the couple and the doctor. She looked dreadful because of the reality of life that has knocked on her door, her life after the hospital.

Madam Florence saw through her innocence, she began to feel for her without listening to her story yet. Maybe she was raped where she was managing, as she said she has no family.

The doctor gave her a signal to sit, she sat down and he cleared his throat.

"They are no longer a stranger to you anymore, these are the people that almost knocked you down, they are also the ones that brought you to this place, they have paid all your bills. You are free to go at any time."

Tonia breathed heavily.

She sat down without an utterance. Doctor Frank continued with his words. "I recalled you said you don't have any family members, I notified them because we can't discharge you on your own."

"Thank you once again!" Tonia kept her words brief as she bent her head to show a form of respect.

Madam Florence can't suppress her emotions, she wanted to know about her story. "Tonia, are you aware that you are pregnant?" She directed the question to her.

"Yes, ma!" She said with her head bent to the ground, feeling remorseful for causing the couple lots of trouble.

"Is that why you wanted a car to run over you that day? You are looking for means to commit suicide?" Madam Florence blasted her questions.

"No ma! I can never think of killing myself. I have prayed for death to come several times, but it refused to take me away. I wondered what I was living for!" She welled up.

It is okay, whatever it is there will forever be a solution. Dr. Frank brushed her.

"Is it because you are pregnant and your family disowned you? Don't you worry God will help you. You can always go back to your family anytime, maybe they are just hurt at the moment. Please stop crying because of your baby." Madam Florence lent in her voice to soothe her.

"I wish I was disowned by my family. That would be better! I wish I could go back to beg for their forgiveness, it's okay with me. My mother shouldn't have given birth to me in the first place. I am cursed from the womb!"

Mr. Badmus can't take all the things Tonia was spitting. He begged, "Please take us to your mother, father, or any of your relatives. We will beg on your behalf."

She giggled scornfully. "Beg on my behalf?" You can't see my mother at all, she is gone.

"Gone to where dear? Tell us we might be able to help you." Doctor Frank bestowed in his voice.

"I buried her with my own hands three months ago!" She cried out and sat on the floor. Sir! Ma! Doctor! She called on them one after the other. "Can you bring her back to life for me?" She raised a lofty question. Silence stood still between them.

Tonia cried out in a wild voice from the floor that she sat on. "You see why I said my mother should have not given birth to me. You all don't know me, that's why you can't understand my pain."

There is something I don't understand here, your mother died three months ago, according to the doctor your pregnancy is about 7-8 weeks. Who impregnated you? Madam Florence asked.

She chuckled like she was insane, you just asked for the reason I questioned why death left me alone in this horrible world. She sighed heavily and became silent.

Tonia! Tonia!! Tonia!!! They are screaming her name in audible voices.
