PROLOGUE (ORIGINS-IN THE PAST)JUNE 1ST, 2050 "There is no understanding on exactly what it is that is happening right now. The CDC and other infection control agencies are not responding to any of our inquiries thus far. All we know is this virus, or whatever it is, is extremely contagious and extremely dangerous. It so far has an extremely high mortality rate." The reporter said sounding as stressed as he looked. "This is very bad, very bad." Nancy said shaking her head as she turned away from the TV. She looked up at her husband, who looked at her solemnly. "Jasmine is going to grow up in this. Do you think she will make it to adulthood? With the way this virus is going?" "Yes honey. We are figuring it out. You just stay in the house. The house is nice and secure, William and Marcia are on their way to stay with you just in case. My team and I are working on it. Finding
YEAR 3555 *CHARLES* "Oh come on Charles." Jessica whined, "why is Blaire always first choice? Because she's your daughter?" "She is my first choice because she is a better hunter than any of you. She's killed more than any of you and she hasn't even been branded with our crest yet. And she's the best because she is my daughter." Charles stared down at the entire hunter council that he presided over. "She is an Raiser. Do you want a history lesson on what that name means?" "No. Charles, we just...we don't know where she is right now. And she should be branded before she is sent off on such an important hunt." Mark said looking at each person while he spoke. Charles was a monster of a man, you could see how pure hunter blood ran through him. He was the size of most alpha werewolves. He stood six foot six inches with massive muscular arms and chest. He looked like a tank. "You can't find her? My daughter? You can't find Blaire?" Charles' face was getting red with ange
*SEBASTIAN* "Where is the Raiser family?" Alpha Sebastian asked his beta, Theo. "They're a few hours south of Ashford. They're having a lot of really bad sand storms down there right now. I know the Raiser daughter is in Ashford right now, as well as a member of another hunter family. Don't know which one." "Find out. Do you know if they know about us yet?" "I believe they do sir." "Which means they'll come after us hard." "Not neccesarily. The human that own's the bar down in Ashford, Sammy, said that another hunter was loudly talking about the branding and ceremony of the Raiser daughter and that she will be sent after you." "Ha, a little girl? Really?" "She's twenty-five sir. And she has a reputation that matches yours. No offense. She is extremely tough. Very strong. Though very small, she is...she shouldn't be underestimated." "I guess I can't laugh too hard now can I? She is a Raiser afterall. If you're comparing her reputation to mine as equals, well no
*BLAIRE* Blaire woke up earlier than Marlow did. He had his arm wrapped around her waist, laying close to her. She rolled her big green eyes, grabbed his arm and dropped if off beside her before climbing out of bed. "Seriously Blaire?" Marlow said sleepily. Tossing his arm off of her woke him, and not in the best way. "What? We're not together Marlow, no cuddling. That was a rule we agreed on." She snapped back. "Come on Blaire. We've been doing this forever. Can't you even accept that maybe there is something here between us, more than just great sex?" Marlow said sitting up and moving to the edge of the bed. Even as he was trying to convince her to be together he couldn't help but admire her amazing naked body. She stood in the doorway of the bathroom leaning against the door jam. "Jesus no...Listen, if you're going to continue down this path of trying to be together or some shit. It's not going to happen." "I'm in love with you." He blurted out as if that was goi
*JASON RAISER* The scientists tried to mimic Jason's mutations, but couldn't prevail for the longest time. They're only hope was that he could reproduce. They gathered a dozen women who passed all the physical and mental health tests and fertilized their eggs with Jason's sperm. Eight women survived birth, and only two babies lived. Among testing what had happened, they found the two surviving babies shared certain DNA markers the others did not. Through the sequencing they realized to make new hunters they needed very specific women with specific markers. They were only able to successfully inject three fetuses with Jason's virus and it create hunters like him, though to find out not as strong or powerful. This is when Jason came up with the mapping of DNA to allow the hunter genes to go on without inbreeding. "Jason, it's ascension day." Daniel said to his son. He mustered up a smile, the only time he could smile was when seeing his surviving, thri
*BLAIRE* "Oh God Blaire thank God you're back." An older woman gushed hurrying over to her, barely giving a glance to her travel companion. "Yes, I always return Elda." Blaire rolled her eyes and continued to walk. "Blaire! Blaire!" Three little kids screamed running to her excitedly. She knelt down and looked at all of them with a smile. "Did you kill a vampire?" One asked. "Or werewolf?" "A werepire?" The eldest, about seven years old, asked. All of them looked at her with eyes sparkling with excitement. She was their gaurdian, the person they aspired to be. "I killed some vampires. I haven't come across any werepires yet Wes, but you'll be the first one I tell if I ever do." They all gathered around to hug her tightly with excitement until the boom of her father's voice scared them off. "Blaire!" He shouted from their mansion's front steps, as it looked out over the rest of the small family village of hunters. "Yes, c
*CHARLES* TWENTY DAYS LEFT UNTIL THE ASCENSION OF BLAIRE RAISER Blaire was so powerful, even at her young age. She'd learned to walk by four months old, to talk fluently by eight months. She was climbing and jumping on things like the agile little warrior she was by a year and a half. She'd progressed faster than anyone any of the family, of any family, had ever known in hand to hand combat, swordsmanship and archery. She could use throwing knives and combat knives better than just about anyone. By the time she was five she'd grown in to what seemed almost like an adult. She was sure of herself, analytical of the choices she made, quick witted and brave. She stood up for her beliefs even then and all these traits strengthened and solidified within her more and more as she got older. The families respected her as a Raiser, but as she aged, the didn't respect her for her name, they respected her for her abilities. They respected her for the person she was. She could enter a room and
*SEBASTIAN* It was the third day he'd gone to that bar. It was on the outskirts of what would be considered the safer part of the region. It was backing up against the rabid terriories filled with rabid and rogue vampires and lycans. It was a dangerous place to be. And also those villages tended to be shit holes, but this bar was very nice, one of the nicer ones he'd ever been in. There were a few humans in some of the towns that owed him favors, and so he told them to notify him when Blaire was on the move. He'd been informed she'd be traveling there. He spent a few days prior establishing a reputation as 'calm' with the bartender to avoid issues while he observed her, gathering information the best he could. He was expecting his heart to leap hard in his chest and his stomach to twist when she walked into the bar and made eye contact with him. She turned away uncaring, but she of course knew what he was. He knew her and the bartender were talking about him. Which really was agains
