Samantha spent most of her day in Ava’s room. It was like she was glued to this granddaughter that she had just met.

“This used to be your mother’s room, and she always did the decorations all by herself.”

Ava looked at the room as a nostalgic feeling welled up in her throat, “I thought that it looked familiar, and now I know why.”

“Huh?”

“My room back in the city was decorated in the exact same way, and it was my mother who did it.”

“How was she as a mother?”

“She died when I was very young and my memories of her have somehow faded. But she was the gentlest woman I have ever known. And the most loving, of course.”

“I wish that I had been bold back then and stood up for my daughter. None of this would have happened.”

Ava hugged the older woman on the arm as she consoled, “It is okay, grandma. I am sure that even in her death, mom never really blamed you. She had already forgiven you.”

“Really?”

“Yes.”
