Family Breakfast

“Good morning, Emmy.” Diana chirruped as soon as she heard my footsteps, although, she didn’t look at me, she still know. I took one step at the time as I approached the table. She still didn’t look at me.

She was still in her dress she wore last night although her makeup was wiped up from her face completely. She was chopping the vegetables on the board. She sliced the red pepper carefully and slowly, removing the seeds alongside. Her total attention was on the pepper.

I sat at the empty chair next to her.

“Where are other people?” I whispered. I could only sense my mother now; August and father were not here while their scent was still fresh in the room.

“They were out talking something important.” She said too quickly as if dismissingly. She was regarding the knife carefully, with a single glance, anyone can tell she had never chopped the vegetables. The witch, used to wand suddenly handed over a knife to chop off vegetables.
