I have more scars than friends…After hours of running around the mall… going from store to store in search of an outfit best suited for tonight. Gia and I were now sitting in a restaurant to catch our breath and grab something to eat. People were speaking around us and the news played on a tv in the distance but couldn't make out what it was about, caught up in my own head. It had been two days since I last saw either of the Magliolo brothers, since I last heard from Dino and it was stressing me the fuck out… I didn't like his silence. My plan couldn't fail, I needed Dino tirelessly trying to impress me and make me his girlfriend.Clack clack clack!! I'm pulled out of my thoughts by Georgia, tapping her long nails against the glass table between us to get my attention. "Eva, are you even listening to me??" She asked when I looked at her, the question coming out in a whine.Nodding my head, I said reassuringly "Of course I am" She let out an exasperated sigh, clearly unconvinced and
This is a story of how I die but am still living... "You thought being pregnant would make you Mrs Magliolo??" He growled, gripping my chin tighter between his fingers. I frantically shook my head, let alone being his wife. The thought of marriage alone never crossed my mind. My everything trembled in fear of his anger ...I had never seen this side of him. Warm fresh tears streamed down my cheeks like waterfalls as I tried to pry his hand away from my face, but his grip only grew tighter …so tight I could feel cracks forming on my jawline like streams to an ocean. "You were wrong" he punched me in the face before finally letting go. The force of his punch forced me to fall back on the ground and scrape my elbows when I used them to break the fall. I couldn't feel my nose and the sudden metallic taste in my mouth only enlightened me on the reason why, he broke my nose. As if that wasn't enough pain already he moved closer to me and, gripping a fist full of my hair pulled my head up an
I will remember and recover, not forgive and forget… “ ...five months ago, you got in an accident. You jumped in front of my car out of nowhere and almost lost your life but I rushed you to the hospital just in time. The doctors fought for your life that night" he explained and let out a soft chuckle, unknowingly answering my unasked question and shoved his hand inside one of his coat's front pockets to pull out a card. At the mention of the accident, my hands unconsciously wrapped around my stomach to feel a bump ...my baby bump but they were met with nothing. My stomach was flatter than that of the girls you always see in sportswear going to the gym. "My baby??" I croaked, my lips trembling as everything that happened that one ominous night came crashing down on my still buzzing head all at once. I heard the doctor let out a sad sigh and felt a hand on my shoulder a second later. “We couldn't save your baby, I'm sorry" he said, gently squeezing it in an attempt to comfort me but i
So much pain for someone so young… "...there's something you need to know..." I coughed at his words, almost choking on my food. I hated that sentence, I never heard anything good after those six words had been said. Dr Sanchez pulled out the card from earlier and let out a nervous sigh before giving it to me. Turning it around between my fingers, I frowned when it turned out to be a photo instead of a business card like I had expected ...a beautiful picture of a Spanish girl smiling happily at the camera with a chihuahua lounging on her lap. She was wearing a white dress with her thick silky black hair pulled to the side, cascading down her left shoulder in soft waves. The blue highlights complimented her eye makeup beautifully. " ...after the accident your face was ruined beyond repair so I asked a specialist to perform plastic surgery on you and give you a new face..." he said, finally giving me the answer I'd been dying to hear but not exactly what I had expected. I froze at his
You took everything from me. Now, I'm going to destroy you… Gently stepping back from our hug, Dr Sanchez held me by my shoulders arms-length away in front of him and said "Well you've met our housekeeper Priscilla already, now it's time you go to bed …you need to rest” I shook my head disagreeing and said “I've rested enough” he sighed, having kinda expected my response and said “then I guess I should introduce you to your new life??” I nodded and he let out a soft chuckle taking my hand in his. He led me up the long staircase to the first floor, stopping in front of two black doors. He pushed them open revealing an office and stepped inside the dark room. Flicking the light switch on, he turned to me and said "Come" beckoning me to come inside and walked to a locker by the corner. Prying it open, he took out a box covered in dust and placed a few photo albums on top of it before carrying it to his desk and gave the albums to me, two of them belonging solely to his daughter. "No
I'm not heartless, I just learned how to use my heart less… FIVE YEARS LATER After an hour of sitting idle in a moving vehicle, the limo finally came to a stop in front of Italy's renowned five star hotel… Mangia's Brucoli luxury hotel, where the auction was going to take place. If it were for me, I would have never come here but Dr Sanchez was a people's person, he loved attending charity galas and always dragged me along with him. He turned to me and asked “Are you ready??” I nodded, smiling reassuringly at him. Tonight was going to be our first night being seen out in the public together since our arrival here in Italy, a week ago. Our door opened and Dr Sanchez stepped out of the car. Stopping not that far from the door, he held out his hand to me. Accepting it, I placed my fingers in his open palm and let him gently pull me out of the limo exposing me to the patiently waiting ocean of flashing lights of cameras. Keeping a polite smile on my face, I fixed my gown and hooked one
I will destroy you in the most beautiful way possible.BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!!I'm snapped out of my peaceful sleep by the annoying sound of something beeping in my ear. I opened my eyes and it's like déjà vu. I groaned, blinded by the bright light shining down on me and shut them close before opening them again, this time usisng my hand as a shield. I looked around the room, confused of my whereabouts andturned my head sideways. Dr Sanchez sat in a sofa not far from the bed I was laying in, with a newspaper in his hands.“Dad??” I croaked.Looking up, he said “You're awake” his lips stretched upward in a relieved smile as he folded his paper close. I nodded, smiling back and tried to sit up straight but winced quickly dismissing the idea when a short sharp pain shot up my scalp like lightning from the back of my head. The sudden pain causing my vision to blur a little and my head to spin.“... don't move just yet” Dr Sanchez hissed, quickly getting up from his seat and rushed toward m
When I leave, you'll finally understand why storms are named after people.A week had gone by quicker than expected, the news of the robbery at the charity event had quickly faded into thin air and were now nothing but a rumour. As for me, my wound was healed enough… I no longer needed to wear a bandage around my head anymore. But Sadly, that also meant I now had to go on a date with Dino. Speaking of which, we went on a two hour drive to Acireale… the town I grew up in with my siblings before our parents moved us to Sicily. To make me feel and I quote “more relaxed and comfortable” on our date, Dino had decided to bring me to watch the carnival in Acireale just outside Sicily near Catania and if I were still the same girl I was five years ago… I would've been ecstatic. Of all the famous carnivals in Italy, the Acireale carnival used to be my favourite. I remember I used to get giddy with excitement during this time of the year. I liked its concentration of merriments and sense of hum
