Chapter Forty-Six: The Day Before Continued..

"Katie's POV"

Sitting on my knees, I look at the palace that towers before me. The sun behind it turned the sky orange and pink as it set. The mountains surrounding me towered even taller, touching the clouds. A dewy fog rolled from the bottoms of the mountain, filling the air with the smell of rain and clarity. Tears flowed from my eyes, I forgot how beautiful it was here. The mixture of awe swirled with pain, my heart aching in my chest. A thousand memories stabbed into my chest as I sat there on my knees. Standing, I took hesitant steps forward, my feet dragging. Putting my hand on the rusted iron gate that towered over me, it creaked loudly against the hinges. My feet landed with light thuds as I walked through the abandoned kingdom. Overgrown trees and grass made it eerily strange. This looked like the place I once played and explored, but now it was covered in vines and overgrown with weeds.
